Job Summary
The Online Volunteer will support WHO Uganda's Ebola Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) efforts by increasing public awareness about Ebola prevention, promoting timely health-seeking behavior, combating misinformation, and strengthening community engagement through digital platforms. The volunteer will create and share public health content, engage online audiences, monitor misinformation trends, and contribute to outbreak communication activities under the guidance of WHO Uganda's communication team.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Content Development
  •  Create culturally appropriate digital content including graphics, infographics, social media posts, and short videos. 
  •  Simplify technical public health information into clear and accessible messages. 
  •  Adapt content for Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram, WhatsApp, TikTok, and other platforms. 
2. Social Media Engagement
  •  Share approved Ebola awareness messages across personal and community networks. 
  •  Engage audiences by responding to questions and comments using approved communication guidance. 
  •  Promote campaign hashtags and ensure messaging consistency. 
3. Misinformation Monitoring
  •  Monitor social media for Ebola-related misinformation and rumors. 
  •  Report misinformation trends to the communication team. 
  •  Support the development of corrective messaging aligned with WHO guidelines. 
4. Campaign Support
  •  Participate in online coordination meetings and communication briefings. 
  •  Contribute innovative ideas to improve campaign reach and engagement. 
  •  Support communication efforts during outbreak updates and alerts. 
5. Data Collection and Feedback
  •  Track social media engagement metrics such as likes, shares, comments, and reach. 
  •  Provide feedback on public perceptions, concerns, and online trends. 
  •  Submit regular activity and engagement reports. 
Expected Outputs
  •  Consistent production of high-quality digital awareness content. 
  •  Increased reach and engagement of Ebola prevention messages. 
  •  Regular reports on misinformation and community concerns. 
  •  Weekly activity updates and engagement statistics.

Educational Background

  •  Social Sciences 
  •  Media Studies 
  •  Related disciplines 
Experience Requirements
  •  Experience in social media management. 
  •  Content creation and digital marketing experience. 
  •  Public health communication experience is an added advantage. 
  •  Community engagement experience is desirable.

Training and Support
Volunteers will receive:
  •  Orientation on Ebola prevention and WHO communication guidelines. 
  •  Access to communication toolkits and IEC materials. 
  •  Continuous technical support and feedback from WHO Uganda. 
Institutional Arrangements
  •  Work under the supervision of WHO Uganda's RCCE/Communication Team. 
  •  Coordinate virtually with designated focal persons. 
  •  Participate in online meetings and reporting activities. 
Conditions of Service
  •  Voluntary and unpaid assignment under the UN Volunteers Programme. 
  •  Certificate of appreciation upon successful completion. 
  •  Flexible schedule of approximately 5–10 hours per week.
