IJM Uganda is seeking a reliable and experienced Security Driver to provide safe transportation services while supporting organizational security and operational requirements.

Job Summary

The Security Driver will be responsible for providing safe, reliable, and secure transportation of IJM staff, visitors, and materials while ensuring compliance with organizational safety and security procedures.
The role requires strong driving skills, situational awareness, knowledge of Kampala routes, vehicle maintenance practices, and the ability to operate effectively under challenging conditions.
The successful candidate will support daily transport operations by maintaining vehicle readiness, completing accurate documentation, monitoring security situations, and ensuring timely movement of personnel.

Key Responsibilities

Vehicle Safety and Maintenance
  • Conduct regular vehicle inspections to ensure roadworthiness and operational readiness.
  • Check vehicle condition, safety equipment, and required documentation before journeys.
  • Identify mechanical issues and report maintenance needs promptly.
  • Support preventive maintenance activities to keep vehicles in good working condition.
  • Ensure vehicles are clean, secure, and ready for assigned duties.

Safe Transportation and Security Support

  • Provide safe and timely transportation for IJM staff, guests, and authorized materials.
  • Follow approved routes while considering security risks and road conditions.
  • Maintain awareness of security situations and communicate relevant updates.
  • Explain organizational safety and security procedures to passengers.
  • Support safe movement during field activities and official assignments.

Travel Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate trip logs, fuel records, and vehicle usage reports.
  • Complete maintenance reports and other transport documentation.
  • Provide timely updates regarding travel schedules and logistical requirements.
  • Ensure all transport records comply with IJM procedures.
  • Report security incidents and operational concerns according to guidelines.

Route Planning and Logistics Coordination

  • Plan travel routes based on safety, distance, traffic conditions, and schedules.
  • Coordinate transport arrangements with relevant teams.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Kampala roads and surrounding areas.
  • Support transportation requirements during official meetings, field visits, and assignments.
  • Adapt quickly to changing travel and security situations.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have:
  • A Diploma in any related field.
  • Certificate in Defensive Driving.
  • Certificate in motor vehicle mechanics is an added advantage.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional driving experience without incidents.
  • Valid driving license with B, C1, and D1 classes.
  • Experience driving both manual and automatic vehicles.
  • Experience driving long distances and on rough terrain.
  • Experience operating four-wheel-drive vehicles.
  • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
  • Experience working with NGOs, security organizations, or law enforcement agencies is an added advantage.

Required Skills and Competencies

Successful candidates should demonstrate:
  • Excellent driving skills in different weather and traffic conditions.
  • Strong knowledge of Kampala roads and surrounding areas.
  • Ability to conduct vehicle safety checks.
  • Good understanding of security protocols and procedures.
  • Strong communication skills in English (written and spoken).
  • Knowledge of local languages is an added advantage.
  • Ability to maintain accurate transport records.
  • Basic computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Good time management and punctuality.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle demanding schedules.
  • Strong attention to detail and reliability.
