Job Summary
Aga Khan University Uganda is seeking a qualified and experienced Instructor / Assistant Lecturer – Anatomy to join the School of Nursing and Midwifery (SONAM) in Kampala.
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate anatomy courses, supporting student learning, contributing to research and publications, participating in academic administration, and maintaining professional development within the healthcare education field.
The position reports directly to the Vice Dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery (SONAM).
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Deliver undergraduate courses in Human Anatomy.
- Develop and implement effective teaching approaches that enhance student understanding.
- Support curriculum delivery and contribute to improving academic programs.
- Assess student performance through examinations, assignments, and practical learning activities.
Research and Academic Development
- Contribute to the advancement of nursing and medical knowledge through research activities.
- Participate in research projects and publish findings in relevant academic journals.
- Support evidence-based education and healthcare practices.
Student Support and Mentorship
- Provide academic guidance, mentorship, and counselling to students.
- Support students in achieving their educational and professional goals.
- Create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Academic Administration
- Participate in SONAM academic activities and program development.
- Support departmental meetings, planning, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to institutional academic objectives.
Professional Development and Clinical Practice
- Maintain active clinical practice where applicable.
- Keep updated with developments in anatomy, healthcare education, and teaching methodologies.
- Participate in continuous professional development activities.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must have:
- A Master of Science in Human Anatomy.
- An undergraduate degree in one of the following:
- Bachelor of Nursing Science.
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB).
- Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences.
- Qualifications obtained from a recognized university.
- Registration with the relevant professional regulatory body where applicable.
- A valid practicing license where applicable.
- At least two (2) years of clinical or teaching experience in a hospital, university, or academic institution.
Added Advantages
The following qualifications will be an added advantage:
- Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Education.
- PhD qualification.
- Experience in health sciences teaching and curriculum development.
- Research and academic publication experience.

Ability to deliver engaging anatomy lessons, simplify complex medical concepts, and support students through effective teaching methods.

Ability to participate in academic research, analyze information, and contribute to scientific publications.

Ability to guide, support, and motivate students throughout their academic journey.

Ability to manage teaching responsibilities, academic schedules, assessments, and administrative duties efficiently.
