The company is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to support electrical construction supervision, inspection, testing, and quality assurance activities for the Tilenga Project in Uganda.

Job Overview

The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for managing and supervising site construction activities related to electrical systems.
The successful candidate will oversee installation, inspection, testing, commissioning support, and documentation of electrical systems including high voltage power systems, transformers, switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution systems, lighting systems, earthing systems, and electrical control systems.
The role requires extensive experience in high voltage electrical projects, industrial construction, electrical inspections, and international engineering standards.

Primary Function

Responsible for the management and supervision of all site construction activities involving electrical systems while ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety requirements, quality standards, and engineering procedures.

Key Responsibilities

1. Electrical Construction Site Supervision
  • Provide site supervision for installation, construction, hook-up, testing, and commissioning activities of electrical systems for the Tilenga Project.
  • Supervise electrical works including but not limited to:
    • 66KV power generators
    • Power and distribution transformers
    • GIS/MV/LV switchgears
    • AC/DC UPS systems
    • Battery chargers
    • Power management systems
    • Protection and control systems
    • Distribution boards
    • Lighting systems
    • Earthing systems
    • Lightning protection systems
    • Heat tracing systems
    • Cabling and wiring works
    • Local control stations
    • Junction boxes
    • High voltage transmission lines
    • Electrical auxiliary systems
  • Ensure electrical installations are completed according to approved engineering standards and project requirements.

2. Electrical Installation Inspection and Quality Control

  • Conduct inspections of electrical installations including:
    • Main power generators
    • Power and distribution transformers
    • High voltage gas insulated switchgear (GIS)
    • Medium voltage and low voltage switchgear
    • Motor Control Centres (MCCs)
    • UPS systems
    • Diesel generator sets
    • Electrical cabling systems
    • Lighting systems
    • Lightning protection systems
    • Earthing systems
  • Verify compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and safety requirements.
  • Identify installation issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ensure electrical works meet quality and performance standards.

3. Off-Site Electrical System Inspection

Conduct inspections of off-site electrical installations including:
  • High voltage transmission lines from CPF to Kabaale Pump Station.
  • Electrical heat tracing systems for feeder lines.
  • Power distribution systems at:
    • Water intake stations
    • Safety check stations
    • Well pads
    • Permanent camps
    • Temporary camps
    • Supply bases
  • Ensure all electrical systems comply with project requirements and engineering standards.

4. Factory Inspection and Equipment Testing

  • Participate in factory inspections and Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) for major electrical equipment and materials when requested by the client.
  • Review equipment specifications and technical documentation.
  • Verify equipment quality and compliance before installation.
  • Support testing activities for electrical systems and components.

5. Technical Documentation and Reporting

  • Review technical documents including:
    • Engineering drawings
    • Technical specifications
    • Work method statements
    • Inspection records
  • Maintain accurate records and archives of technical documents throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure all electrical documentation is properly completed and stored.
  • Prepare technical reports and inspection records.

6. Hazardous Area Equipment Inspection

  • Conduct inspection of electrical equipment installed in hazardous areas.
  • Ensure compliance with hazardous area requirements and international safety standards.
  • Verify suitability of electrical equipment for project environments.

7. Project Support Activities

  • Assist the Project Leader in completing daily project activities.
  • Provide technical support and engineering recommendations.
  • Support project coordination and problem-solving activities.
  • Work closely with contractors, engineers, and client representatives.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education Requirements
Applicants must have:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher qualification in:
    • Electrical Engineering
or a related engineering discipline.

Mandatory Certification

Applicants must possess:
  • CompEx / IECEx Certification (Mandatory)

Professional Experience

Candidates must have:
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in electrical engineering.
  • Proven experience working on:
    • High voltage projects
    • Industrial electrical installations
    • Energy projects
    • Construction projects
Experience with large-scale oil and gas or infrastructure projects is highly desirable.

Technical Knowledge Required

Strong knowledge and experience in:
  • Electrical site construction
