JOB DESCRIPTION: DATA AND GIS ANALYST

REPORTING LINE
Reports to the RAM/VAM Officer (Project Lead) and works closely with the PPO RAM Analytics and GIS Officer and the broader RAM Team.
JOB PURPOSE
The Data and GIS Analyst will support the implementation of the Karamoja Sentinel Project by providing data management, GIS mapping, dashboard development, reporting, monitoring, and analytical support. The role is ideal for an early-career professional with a strong interest in humanitarian analytics, food security analysis, GIS, forecasting systems, and data-driven decision-making.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
DATA MANAGEMENT & ANALYTICS
  • Clean, validate, format, and manage datasets from climate, food security, market, and monitoring sources.
  • Maintain project databases and data repositories.
  • Conduct routine statistical analysis and prepare analytical summaries.
  • Support data quality assurance processes and documentation.
  • Maintain metadata and ensure proper data organization protocols.
  • Develop and manage data validation outputs and reporting tools.
GIS & SPATIAL ANALYSIS
  • Produce GIS maps and spatial analysis products.
  • Manage geospatial layers for Karamoja districts and sub-counties.
  • Develop vulnerability mapping overlays and visualization products.
  • Support map creation for reports, dashboards, presentations, and decision-making processes.
  • Ensure geospatial data quality and consistency.
DASHBOARD DEVELOPMENT & REPORTING
  • Support development and maintenance of Power BI and Tableau dashboards.
  • Generate routine analytical and automated reports.
  • Visualize food security indicators and monitoring outputs.
  • Participate in dashboard testing, enhancement, and documentation activities.
  • Provide reporting inputs for project monitoring and evaluation.
PROJECT MONITORING & COORDINATION
  • Support project activity monitoring and milestone tracking.
  • Assist in organizing workshops, trainings, and stakeholder engagements.
  • Prepare training materials and workshop reports.
  • Participate in field data collection and monitoring visits when required.
  • Coordinate with government institutions and humanitarian partners.
KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT
  • Maintain well-organized project repositories and documentation systems.
  • Ensure all datasets and outputs are properly documented and archived.
  • Contribute to project learning and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s Degree in:
    • GIS or Geography
    • Statistics
    • Data Science
    • Computer Science
    • Economics
    • Information Management
    • Environmental Science
    • Or a related field
EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in data analysis, GIS, monitoring, research, or market analysis.
  • Exposure to humanitarian, development, food security, agriculture, or climate-related programs is desirable.
  • Experience supporting data collection and field monitoring activities is an advantage.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Intermediate proficiency in ArcGIS or QGIS.
  • Familiarity with Power BI, Tableau, or related visualization tools.
  • Knowledge of data cleaning and statistical analysis workflows.
  • Experience with mobile data collection platforms such as:
    • ODK
    • SurveyCTO
    • MoDa
  • Basic knowledge of:
    • Python
    • SQL
    • R Programming
  • Interest in AI, forecasting systems, and geospatial analytics.
