Air Traffic Management Officer (Trainee) – Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA)
Job Summary
Uganda Civil Aviation Authority is recruiting 10 Air Traffic Management Officer Trainees to undergo structured theoretical and practical training in Air Traffic Control. Successful candidates will be deployed as licensed Air Traffic Controllers upon completion of training in line with ICAO standards.

  • Position: Air Traffic Management Officer – Trainee
  • Reports To: Air Traffic Management Supervisor / OJT
  • Salary Level: 9
  • Vacancies: 10
  • Duty Station: Entebbe & possible upcountry aerodromes
Job Purpose
To train in providing safe, orderly, and efficient air traffic services in accordance with ICAO standards and recommended practices, leading to certification as an Air Traffic Controller.
Key Responsibilities
Training & Orientation
  • Undertake job orientation within Air Navigation Services
  • Study ICAO, APIRG, and UCAA aviation regulations
  • Attend approved Air Traffic Control training at an ATO
On-the-Job Training
  • Train under supervision of qualified Air Traffic Controllers
  • Apply learned technical skills in real operational environments
  • Participate in structured performance assessments
Safety & Compliance
  • Perform aviation safety responsibilities as per UCAA Safety Handbook
  • Adhere strictly to ICAO standards and procedures
General Duties
  • Carry out assigned tasks from supervisors
  • Maintain flexibility for aviation operational needs
Who an Air Traffic Controller is
An ATC ensures the safe and efficient flow of aircraft by:
  • Issuing instructions and clearances to pilots
  • Maintaining safe separation between aircraft
  • Coordinating with other control units
  • Managing emergency situations
  • Working in a high-pressure, shift-based environment
Requirements (Person Specifications)
Education
  • Bachelor of Science (Honours) in:
    • Physics
    • Mathematics
    • Geography
    • Statistics
    • Computer Science / ICT
    • Engineering / Surveying
  • A-Level: Principal pass in Mathematics and/or Physics
  • O-Level: Credit in English, Mathematics, Physics, Geography
Age Requirement
  • 26 years or below at application deadline
Other Requirements
  • Must submit National ID
  • Willing to work shifts (day, night, weekends, holidays)
  • Willing to relocate to Entebbe or upcountry aerodromes
  • Must undergo medical examination
