Job Summary

The Trade Finance Relationship Manager will be responsible for driving the growth and profitability of the Bank’s Trade Finance business by acquiring new customers, strengthening existing client relationships, and expanding trade finance assets, liabilities, and off-balance sheet business.
The successful candidate will develop innovative trade finance solutions for Corporate and SME clients, manage strategic customer relationships, maintain a high-quality portfolio within acceptable risk levels, and contribute to achieving the Bank’s business growth objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development and Portfolio Growth
  • Drive the growth of the Bank's Trade Finance portfolio through acquisition of new Corporate and SME customers.
  • Structure and close new trade finance transactions.
  • Grow off-balance sheet trade finance business including:
    • Letters of Credit (LCs)
    • Bank Guarantees
    • Standby Letters of Credit (SBLCs)
    • Other trade finance instruments.
  • Achieve agreed trade finance loan growth targets.
  • Mobilize and grow trade finance-related deposits.
  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of trade finance opportunities.
  • Convert prospects into active banking relationships.
  • Identify new business opportunities to increase revenue and profitability.
Relationship Management
  • Build and strengthen long-term relationships with Corporate and SME clients.
  • Conduct regular customer visits and maintain comprehensive call reports.
  • Provide advisory services on trade finance solutions.
  • Cross-sell and up-sell the Bank's products and services.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and resolve customer issues promptly.
  • Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction and loyalty.
Credit and Risk Management
  • Monitor the quality of the Trade Finance portfolio.
  • Maintain Portfolio at Risk (PAR 30+) within approved thresholds.
  • Identify early warning signs of credit deterioration.
  • Recommend and implement corrective actions to minimize loan losses.
  • Ensure compliance with internal credit policies and risk management guidelines.
  • Ensure adherence to AML, KYC, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with international trade finance standards.
Product Development and Innovation
  • Support the review and enhancement of Trade Finance products.
  • Contribute to the development of the Trade Finance Customer Value Proposition (CVP).
  • Work closely with Product, Operations, Compliance, and Risk teams.
  • Identify opportunities for new trade finance products.
  • Monitor competitor activities and emerging market trends.
Training and Capacity Building
  • Organize Trade Finance training sessions for internal staff.
  • Develop training materials and knowledge resources.
  • Support capacity building across business teams.
  • Participate in continuous professional development programs.
Reporting and Administration
  • Prepare accurate sales, pipeline, portfolio, and performance reports.
  • Maintain complete customer records and transaction documentation.
  • Submit customer visitation reports within agreed timelines.
  • Provide management with market intelligence and portfolio updates.

Required Qualifications

Education
Applicants must possess:
  • Bachelor's Degree in:
    • Banking
    • Finance
    • Economics
    • Commerce
    • Business Administration
    • Marketing
    • Or another related discipline.
Professional Qualifications
The following will be an added advantage:
  • Trade Finance Certification.
  • Corporate Banking qualifications.
  • Credit Analysis certification.
  • International Trade qualifications.

Required Experience

Applicants should have:
  • Minimum 5 years of banking experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience in Trade Finance, Corporate Banking, Relationship Management, or Business Development.
  • Proven experience managing Corporate and SME clients.
  • Demonstrated success in business acquisition and portfolio growth.
  • Strong record of revenue generation and relationship management.
