Job Purpose
The SME Banking Officer will be responsible for driving sales of SME banking products, managing customer relationships, supporting credit processes, and delivering high-quality service to SME clients while achieving branch sales targets.

Key Responsibilities
1. SME Sales & Business Growth
  • Execute sales of SME assets, liabilities, and other bank products in line with branch targets
  • Mobilize deposits and grow SME customer base
  • Cross-sell banking products to existing and new customers
2. Customer Service & Relationship Management
  • Handle customer queries, requests, feedback, and complaints
  • Disseminate information on bank products and services
  • Maintain strong SME customer relationships to support retention
3. Account Opening & Management
  • Handle establishment of new accounts and modification of existing relationships
  • Collect and verify customer information for account setup
  • Manage SME account documentation and compliance requirements
4. Credit Support & Loan Processing
  • Conduct initial appraisal of SME loan applications
  • Guide customers through loan application processes
  • Ensure supporting documentation is complete and accurate
  • Explain and facilitate signing of loan offer letters
  • Handle check-off loans and submit applications for approval
5. Credit Monitoring & Reporting
  • Ensure credit applications are captured in credit analysis systems
  • Follow up on loan approvals and customer dispute resolutions
  • Maintain records of loan processing stages (application, approval, disbursement, etc.)
6. Branch Sales & Reporting
  • Conduct sales calls and gather market intelligence
  • Prepare business banking returns, sales reports, and customer care reports
  • Contribute to branch budgeting and performance reporting
7. Customer Complaints Handling
  • Receive, resolve, or escalate customer complaints
  • Maintain and update customer complaints register
8. Card & Financial Services Support
  • Handle debit and credit card inquiries and encashment requests
  • Provide support for IPO-related customer services
9. Leadership & Support Role
  • Support Customer Care Representatives
  • Contribute to overall branch customer service leadership
  • Ensure smooth service delivery across SME banking operations
10. Additional Duties
  • Perform any other duties assigned by management from time to time

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required
Applicants should possess:
  • A university degree in a relevant business-related discipline
  • Professional qualification in General Banking is an added advantage
  • At least 2 years’ experience in sales and customer service (SME banking preferred)
  • Strong understanding of SME lending and credit structuring
  • Good knowledge of banking products and services
  • Understanding of digital financial services and their applications
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to identify and structure SME lending opportunities
  • Ability to work in a fast-changing and competitive environment
  • High drive for sales performance and innovation
