The company is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Quality Officer to support coffee quality assurance, laboratory operations, processing monitoring, and export compliance.

Job Summary

The Quality Officer will be responsible for ensuring that coffee products meet company standards, customer requirements, and regulatory expectations throughout the coffee value chain.
The successful candidate will conduct coffee quality assessments, monitor processing activities, manage laboratory samples, prepare reports, and ensure compliance with Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) standards.
This role requires a candidate with strong analytical skills, knowledge of coffee quality evaluation, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with purchasing, production, and export teams.

Key Responsibilities

1. Coffee Quality Assessment and Reporting
  • Conduct quality analysis of Arabica and Robusta coffee for purchasing, export, and operational requirements.
  • Evaluate coffee samples to identify quality characteristics, defects, and variations.
  • Prepare detailed quality reports to support coffee purchasing and export decisions.
  • Maintain accurate records of coffee quality assessments and results.
2. Coffee Processing Quality Monitoring
  • Monitor coffee quality throughout processing stages including:
    • Grading
    • Gravity tabling
    • Colour sorting
    • Mixing and bulking
  • Ensure coffee processing activities meet required quality standards.
  • Record observations and maintain traceability of coffee lots.
  • Work with production teams to address quality challenges.
3. Laboratory and Sample Management
  • Prepare and manage coffee samples for:
    • Approval processes
    • Stock lots
    • Shipment samples
    • Customer evaluations
    • Quality verification
  • Maintain organised laboratory records and sample tracking systems.
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of coffee samples.
  • Support quality documentation processes.
4. Export Quality Control
  • Inspect export containers and storage facilities before loading.
  • Ensure containers and trucks are clean and suitable for coffee transportation.
  • Oversee coffee sampling, loading, and off-loading processes.
  • Ensure exported coffee meets customer specifications and quality requirements.
5. Compliance and Quality Standards
  • Ensure compliance with UCDA standards and customer quality expectations.
  • Maintain quality records for reporting, audits, and certification purposes.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the quality department.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in:
    • Food Science
    • Agriculture
    • Agronomy
    • Agricultural Sciences
    • Related fields
  • Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in quality control, preferably within coffee processing.
  • Experience in coffee grading, quality assessment, and certification processes is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of Arabica and Robusta coffee processing is desirable.
  • Understanding of coffee quality standards and export procedures.
