This strategic role is responsible for driving business expansion while ensuring strong credit performance, portfolio quality, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership capabilities, deep experience in credit operations, and the ability to manage multi-country PAYGO systems in a fast-paced, data-driven environment.

Job Purpose
The Operations & Credit Team Leader – PAYGO will be responsible for driving the expansion, performance, and sustainability of WASSHA’s PAYGO business across all operating countries. The role ensures strong portfolio health through effective credit risk management, operational controls, and performance monitoring.
The position will work closely with country teams to enhance customer acquisition, improve repayment performance, strengthen portfolio quality, and optimize operational efficiency in line with WASSHA’s PAYGO business objectives.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Managerial Responsibilities
The role involves implementing WASSHA’s vision, mission, and values across all PAYGO operations while providing leadership, technical guidance, and coordination support to country teams. The Team Leader will oversee PAYGO performance across multiple countries and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
The incumbent will monitor business performance and provide timely reports, insights, and recommendations to senior management. The role includes supporting country teams in achieving growth targets, facilitating knowledge sharing, identifying operational gaps, and ensuring implementation of corrective actions.
The position also requires collaboration with Finance, Operations, Product, Customer Support, and IT teams to ensure seamless execution of PAYGO activities while maintaining compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.

Business Growth & PAYGO Expansion
The successful candidate will develop and implement PAYGO growth strategies across multiple markets. Responsibilities include identifying new market opportunities, expanding customer segments, supporting product launches, and driving adoption of PAYGO solutions.
The role requires close monitoring of customer acquisition, retention rates, sales performance, and activation targets while analyzing market trends and competitor activities to improve overall business performance.
The Team Leader will also develop regional dashboards and track KPIs to ensure data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.
Portfolio Quality & Credit Performance
The role is responsible for monitoring and improving PAYGO portfolio quality across all countries. This includes tracking key indicators such as Portfolio at Risk (PAR 30/60/90), default rates, collection efficiency, recovery rates, and write-offs.
The incumbent will develop and enforce credit policies, risk management frameworks, and fraud prevention mechanisms to safeguard portfolio health. Responsibilities also include overseeing collections, recoveries, repossession processes, and portfolio forecasting.
The role requires continuous analysis of customer repayment behavior and proactive identification of emerging risks, along with recommending corrective actions to management.

Operational Excellence
The Operations & Credit Team Leader will standardize PAYGO operational processes across all countries to ensure consistency and efficiency. This includes monitoring device activation, onboarding processes, payment collections, and data integrity across systems.
The role involves driving process improvements, enhancing customer experience, and ensuring smooth coordination with payment partners and service providers.

Qualifications
Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field. Professional certifications in Credit Management, Risk Management, Finance, or Project Management will be an added advantage.

Experience
Candidates must have at least 3–5 years of experience in PAYGO systems, microfinance, fintech, solar energy, credit operations, or portfolio management.
Experience managing multi-country operations is highly desirable, along with strong exposure to credit risk management, portfolio analytics, and digital financial systems.

Skills and Competencies
The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical, financial modeling, and data interpretation skills. Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and Google Sheets is required, with experience using Power BI or similar business intelligence tools being an advantage.
Strong understanding of PAYGO systems, credit risk frameworks, and portfolio management is essential. The role also requires excellent business growth strategy execution, project management, stakeholder engagement, and operational leadership capabilities.

The successful candidate should demonstrate strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities. The role requires excellent communication skills, adaptability, and the ability to work effectively across multiple countries and diverse teams.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Growth KPIs: Active PAYGO customers, customer acquisition growth, PAYGO revenue growth, product adoption rate, customer retention rate.
Credit KPIs: PAR 30/60/90, collection efficiency, default rate, recovery rate, write-off ratio.
Operational KPIs: Device activation rate, onboarding turnaround time, data accuracy, compliance with PAYGO SOPs.
