JOB DESCRIPTION: MEDICAL COORDINATOR
Organization: Reproductive Health Uganda (RHU)
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
Reports To: Service Delivery Manager
Position: 1 Post
1. ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND
Reproductive Health Uganda (RHU) is a member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), a global leader in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). RHU provides high-quality, rights-based SRHR information, training, research, and clinical services with a strong focus on young people.
2. JOB PURPOSE
The Medical Coordinator will provide technical leadership, supervision, and coordination of clinical services within RHU clinics. The role ensures delivery of high-quality Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services in line with Ministry of Health (MoH) and RHU standards, protocols, and guidelines.
The position also supports continuous quality improvement, staff capacity building, compliance, and integration of evidence-based SRHR practices across RHU service delivery points.
3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Leadership & Technical Oversight
  • Provide technical guidance for all clinical SRH services
  • Ensure adherence to evidence-based clinical practices and national SRHR guidelines
  • Supervise delivery of integrated reproductive health services across clinics
Quality Assurance & Standards Compliance
  • Develop, review, and update clinical protocols and SOPs
  • Establish and monitor quality assurance systems across clinics
  • Conduct routine clinical audits and ensure compliance with MoH and RHU standards
  • Promote patient safety, rights, dignity, and confidentiality
Staff Training & Capacity Development
  • Conduct Training Needs Assessments for clinical staff
  • Design and implement continuous professional development programs
  • Train and mentor healthcare providers on SRHR service delivery
  • Strengthen clinical team performance and service quality
Clinic Management & Coordination
  • Develop clinic work plans and budgets
  • Coordinate daily clinical operations for efficiency and service delivery
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and ensure target achievement
  • Provide input into staffing needs and human resource planning
Data Management & Reporting
  • Analyze clinical data to identify trends and service gaps
  • Prepare and submit periodic clinical and program reports
  • Support evidence-based decision-making through data interpretation
  • Strengthen monitoring and evaluation of SRH services
Pharmaceutical, Laboratory & Supply Chain Support
  • Support forecasting and requisition of medical supplies and commodities
  • Collaborate with pharmacy and laboratory teams to ensure service continuity
  • Ensure availability of essential SRH commodities
Insurance & Health Systems Management
  • Ensure timely processing of insurance claims and payments
  • Oversee compliance with insurance service delivery procedures
  • Engage with insurance providers for efficient service coordination
Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships
  • Engage healthcare partners, stakeholders, and insurance providers
  • Build and maintain sustainable professional relationships
  • Represent RHU in relevant clinical and SRHR coordination forums
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
  • Integrate new research, innovations, and best practices into clinical services
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and service delivery improvements
  • Promote patient-centered and adolescent-friendly SRHR services
4. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Master’s Degree in Public Health or related health discipline
  • Valid practicing license and professional registration
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in reproductive health service delivery
  • Experience in NGO SRHR programming
  • Strong knowledge of clinical SRHR protocols and guidelines
  • Experience in clinical supervision, training, and quality assurance
  • Strong leadership, communication, and report writing skills
  • Experience in program planning and management
