Job Summary

d.light Uganda is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Logistics Officer to manage logistics operations, shipment tracking, customs documentation, and supply chain compliance. The successful candidate will oversee the movement of goods from origin to the central warehouse, ensure accurate customs declarations, coordinate with clearing agents and logistics service providers, and maintain proper documentation for all inventory movements.
The role requires strong knowledge of customs procedures, logistics management systems, supply chain operations, and the ability to work under pressure while meeting strict delivery timelines.

Key Responsibilities

Customs & Import Operations
  • Ensure accurate customs declarations by confirming applicable HS Codes and CP Codes before approval of tax worksheets.
  • Coordinate customs verification processes with relevant authorities and clearing agents.
  • Ensure compliance with Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) customs procedures and regulations.
  • Provide required documentation and information to support customs clearance.
  • Support customs-related engagements and resolve importation issues.
Shipment Tracking & Delivery Management
  • Monitor all shipments from origin until arrival at the central warehouse or final destination.
  • Track shipments in the pipeline and provide regular updates.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, shipping companies, clearing agents, and internal teams.
  • Ensure timely delivery of goods while minimizing delays.
  • Prepare weekly shipment tracking reports.
Logistics Documentation & Record Management
  • Maintain accurate records of all logistics-related documents.
  • Organize customs documents, shipping records, delivery notes, and inventory documentation.
  • Ensure proper filing and accessibility of logistics records.
  • Maintain compliance documentation for audits and operational reviews.
Warehouse & Inventory Coordination
  • Ensure all stock receipts and dispatches are properly documented.
  • Record warehouse receipts and stock movements in Navision.
  • Ensure all inventory movements include proper partner and delivery details.
  • Confirm receipt of goods through signed documentation.
  • Support accurate inventory tracking and order fulfillment.
Supplier & Logistics Provider Management
  • Coordinate payments for logistics service providers.
  • Follow up on container guarantee refunds and related payments.
  • Manage container release processes with shipping lines and Inland Container Depots (ICDs).
  • Coordinate empty container returns according to shipping requirements.
  • Maintain effective relationships with logistics partners.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Performance will be measured based on:
  • Accurate customs declarations.
  • Timely shipment tracking and delivery.
  • Proper logistics documentation and record keeping.
  • Compliance with customs regulations.
  • Efficient order fulfillment.
  • Accuracy of inventory movements.
  • Timely reporting and issue resolution.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should possess:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Transport Management, Procurement, or a related field.
  • Professional certification in supply chain or logistics is an added advantage.

Required Experience

Candidates should have:
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working as a Logistics Officer, Supply Chain Officer, Import Officer, or similar role.
  • Experience handling customs processes and import documentation.
  • Experience working with clearing agents, shipping lines, and logistics providers.
  • Knowledge of logistics management systems and procedures.
  • Experience using ERP systems such as Navision is an added advantage.
