Job Purpose

The Laboratory Assistant will support laboratory activities by preparing samples, assisting with routine laboratory procedures, maintaining laboratory records, ensuring proper handling of medical specimens, and supporting healthcare professionals in providing accurate diagnostic services.
The position plays an important role in ensuring smooth laboratory operations and timely availability of test results for effective patient care.

Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Operations and Sample Management
  • Receive, identify, label, and process patient specimens according to approved laboratory procedures.
  • Assist in collecting and preparing samples for laboratory testing.
  • Ensure proper storage, handling, and transportation of laboratory specimens.
  • Support laboratory staff in conducting routine tests and investigations.
  • Prepare laboratory equipment, materials, and workstations before procedures.
  • Ensure samples are handled safely to prevent contamination and errors.
Laboratory Documentation and Reporting
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, registers, and patient information.
  • Record test results and laboratory information correctly and promptly.
  • Ensure confidentiality of patient medical records and laboratory reports.
  • Assist in preparing laboratory reports and documentation as required.
  • Support data entry and record management activities.
Quality Assurance and Safety Compliance
  • Follow laboratory quality control procedures and healthcare standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the laboratory environment.
  • Observe infection prevention and control measures.
  • Properly dispose of laboratory waste according to safety guidelines.
  • Report equipment faults, shortages, or unusual findings to the supervisor.

Patient Support and Team Collaboration
  • Provide professional assistance to patients during sample collection procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, healthcare workers, and laboratory teams.

Qualifications and Requirements
