RHSP is seeking a qualified and experienced Laboratory Technologist to join its laboratory team at the Kalisizo station. The successful candidate will support laboratory operations by conducting accurate diagnostic testing, maintaining quality standards, managing laboratory documentation, and ensuring compliance with international laboratory practices.
Job Summary
The Laboratory Technologist will be responsible for performing laboratory investigations across multiple diagnostic disciplines while ensuring adherence to Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP), ISO 15189:2022 quality standards, laboratory safety guidelines, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
The role requires a highly detail-oriented professional with strong laboratory technical skills, commitment to quality improvement, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare and research environment.
The successful candidate will support biomedical research activities and clinical laboratory services through accurate sample processing, testing, reporting, quality assurance activities, inventory management, and laboratory documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Testing and Sample Processing
  • Receive, process, and analyse laboratory specimens according to approved laboratory procedures.
  • Perform diagnostic testing in areas including chemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, hematology, serology, and flow cytometry.
  • Ensure proper specimen identification, handling, storage, and disposal.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment according to manufacturer guidelines.
Quality Assurance and Compliance
  • Maintain compliance with Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) and ISO 15189:2022 laboratory quality standards.
  • Implement laboratory quality control procedures to ensure accurate and reliable results.
  • Participate in laboratory audits, inspections, and quality improvement activities.
  • Support the development, review, and implementation of laboratory SOPs.
Documentation and Reporting
  • Record laboratory findings accurately and maintain complete laboratory records.
  • Prepare and submit laboratory reports within required timelines.
  • Ensure proper documentation of quality control results, equipment maintenance, and testing procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional integrity when handling patient and research information.
Laboratory Inventory Management
  • Monitor laboratory supplies, reagents, and consumables.
  • Support inventory tracking and ordering processes.
  • Ensure availability of essential laboratory materials to support uninterrupted operations.
Team Collaboration
  • Work closely with researchers, clinicians, and laboratory teams to support clinical and research activities.
  • Participate in laboratory meetings, training sessions, and competency assessments.
  • Promote teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement within the laboratory.
Required Qualifications and Skills
Must Have
Bachelor’s Degree in Laboratory Sciences or related field
The candidate should have a recognised university degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Laboratory Technology, or a related discipline.
Valid Practicing License
Applicants must hold a valid professional registration and practicing license from the relevant regulatory body.
Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) Certification
Knowledge and certification in GCLP standards is required to ensure compliance with research laboratory requirements.
Knowledge of ISO 15189:2022 Standards
Understanding of medical laboratory quality management systems and accreditation requirements is essential.
Laboratory Experience
Applicants should have practical experience working in a clinical, research, or diagnostic laboratory environment.
Additional Qualifications (Added Advantage)
  • Training in internal laboratory auditing.
  • Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certification.
  • Biosafety training.
  • Experience working in research laboratories.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Experience with laboratory quality management systems.
