JOB SUMMARY
The Director of MEAL will provide strategic leadership for Imagine Worldwide’s Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) function. The role is critical in driving evidence-based decision-making, strengthening organizational accountability, and ensuring that data is used effectively to improve learning outcomes for children.
The successful candidate will lead MEAL teams across multiple African countries, oversee the development and implementation of MEAL frameworks, and foster a strong data-driven culture across the organization. This position requires a highly analytical, collaborative, and visionary leader with extensive experience in data management, program evaluation, and organizational learning.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
MEAL STRATEGY AND LEADERSHIP
  • Lead the development and implementation of MEAL frameworks, indicators, and measurement plans across all program countries.
  • Own and continuously refine the organization’s Theory of Change to ensure alignment with learning outcomes and program impact.
  • Develop and maintain Master Data Management (MDM) standards, procedures, and reporting rhythms.
  • Ensure that program data is accurate, accessible, ethical, and aligned with organizational impact goals.
  • Establish robust data governance and quality assurance protocols.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Analytics to create a unified data architecture and a single source of truth across all systems.
  • Oversee the development of intuitive dashboards and data visualization platforms for leadership and country teams.
PROGRAM DATA ANALYSIS AND REPORTING
  • Lead the creation of dashboards, performance reports, and analytic models to support program delivery and operational effectiveness.
  • Conduct statistical analysis, segmentation, forecasting, and experimental design, including A/B testing where appropriate.
  • Develop and refine hypotheses related to program performance and the Theory of Change.
  • Translate complex data into clear narratives, visualizations, and actionable recommendations for diverse audiences.
  • Produce high-quality reports for donors, governments, senior leadership, and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure that all external communications accurately reflect evidence-based program impact.
MONITORING, EVALUATION, AND LEARNING
  • Design and implement rigorous monitoring and evaluation systems for program performance.
  • Support qualitative and quantitative research activities, including survey implementation and data analysis.
  • Document lessons learned and promote organizational learning.
  • Ensure that insights from monitoring and evaluation are integrated into program and product improvement.
  • Contribute to global knowledge on effective edtech and foundational learning program implementation.
CAPACITY BUILDING AND DATA CULTURE
  • Build and strengthen a culture of continuous learning and data-driven decision-making across the organization.
  • Develop data literacy and analytical skills among country teams and functional departments.
  • Train staff on dashboards, data definitions, quality standards, and reporting practices.
  • Coach and mentor MEAL staff, enhancing their strategic thinking, problem-solving, and analytical capabilities.
  • Promote the adoption and effective use of data resources in day-to-day operations.
STAKEHOLDER COLLABORATION
  • Work closely with global functional teams, country delivery teams, and external partners.
  • Collaborate with Communications, Research, Technology, and Supply Chain teams to ensure data consistency and relevance.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, governments, and development partners.
  • Represent the MEAL function in cross-organizational initiatives and strategic discussions.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
EDUCATION
  • Honours Degree or Postgraduate Diploma in Data Science, Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL), Statistics, Public Health, Education, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline is preferred.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in data-related roles.
  • At least 5 years in a senior leadership position managing enterprise-level data or MEAL interventions.
  • Proven experience in monitoring, evaluation, and impact measurement within nonprofit, education, or social sector programs.
  • Experience building and sustaining a data-driven organizational culture.
  • Experience managing remote or hybrid teams across multiple countries.
  • Familiarity with educational technology (EdTech) and foundational learning programs is an advantage.

  • Advanced proficiency in data analysis, data cleaning, and data quality management.

  • Familiarity with data governance and Master Data Management principles.
