About the CONNECT4Health Project
The CONNECT4Health Project aims to strengthen integrated care for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and mental health conditions by improving connections between communities, healthcare facilities, and follow-up care pathways.
The project operates in Buikwe and Mayuge districts, Uganda, focusing on improving health data systems, service delivery, patient follow-up, and evidence-based healthcare planning.

Job Summary

Makerere University School of Public Health is seeking a qualified and experienced Data Manager to support the CONNECT4Health Project.
The Data Manager will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and managing electronic project databases, ensuring data quality, supporting reporting activities, training project teams, and maintaining secure data systems.
The successful candidate will provide technical leadership in data management processes, database administration, quality assurance, and reporting to support effective project implementation.

Key Responsibilities

Database Development and Management
  • Develop, configure, and maintain electronic project databases using REDCap.
  • Create data-quality checks, automated cleaning queries, and validation processes.
  • Support database improvements to meet project data requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and reliable project data systems.
Data Quality Assurance and Quality Control
  • Develop and implement data-management procedures.
  • Establish quality assurance and quality control standards.
  • Conduct routine database reviews and identify data inconsistencies.
  • Monitor data accuracy, completeness, and reliability.
Data Entry Coordination and Supervision
  • Coordinate data entry activities across participating districts and health facilities.
  • Supervise data collection and entry processes.
  • Provide technical guidance to project teams involved in data management.
  • Ensure timely availability of quality project data.
Technical Support and Compliance
  • Support project teams in using data management systems effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with technical, ethical, and legal data requirements.
  • Promote responsible handling and protection of health-related information.
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of project databases.
Reporting and Data Analysis Support
  • Generate performance reports and data visualisations.
  • Provide data summaries for quarterly project reports.
  • Support project decision-making through accurate data insights.
  • Assist teams with basic statistical analysis.
Training and Capacity Building
  • Train project staff on data management practices.
  • Provide guidance on database use and data quality procedures.
  • Build staff capacity in basic statistical analysis and reporting.
Data Security and Protection
  • Implement measures to protect project databases from security breaches.
  • Maintain secure data archives and backups.
  • Prevent data loss through proper data management practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Biostatistics or an equivalent qualification.
  • Academic background in Statistics, Medical Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or a related field.
  • At least five years’ experience working in a similar data management role.
  • Experience developing and managing electronic databases.
  • Experience working with longitudinal data systems.
  • Knowledge of interoperable data systems and health information systems.
  • Strong understanding of data quality management principles.
