HEAD OF COURIER & LAST-MILE DELIVERY – PEBUU

JOB OVERVIEW

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and execute the overall business strategy for the Courier and Last-Mile Delivery Business Unit.
• Design and implement a comprehensive go-to-market strategy and long-term growth roadmap.
• Identify new business opportunities and drive market expansion across Uganda.
• Build strategic partnerships with corporate clients, e-commerce businesses, SMEs, financial institutions, and other stakeholders.
• Develop pricing models, service packages, and revenue-generation strategies.
• Achieve business growth targets while improving profitability and customer acquisition.

• Lead the end-to-end establishment of Pebuu's Courier and Last-Mile Delivery Business Unit.
• Design scalable operating models to support nationwide delivery services.
• Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), operational policies, and quality assurance standards.
• Establish nationwide parcel collection, sorting, dispatch, and delivery processes.
• Build efficient logistics structures capable of supporting business expansion.
• Develop operational controls, reporting systems, and risk management frameworks.

• Oversee nationwide courier and last-mile delivery operations to ensure timely, secure, and efficient service delivery.
• Monitor operational performance against key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Improve delivery turnaround times, fleet utilization, and operational productivity.
• Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through service excellence.
• Manage parcel handling, dispatch, proof of delivery, and returns management processes.
• Implement continuous improvement initiatives to optimize operational efficiency.

• Collaborate with the Information Technology team to develop and enhance courier management systems.
• Support implementation of:
  • Parcel Tracking Systems
  • Proof of Delivery (POD) Solutions
  • Route Optimization Tools
  • Delivery Management Platforms
  • Fleet Monitoring Systems
  • Operational Reporting Dashboards
• Promote digital transformation across courier operations.
• Utilize data analytics to improve operational performance and customer experience.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, business partners, regulators, and internal stakeholders.
• Lead customer onboarding and account management processes.
• Resolve customer issues and maintain high service standards.
• Identify opportunities to expand existing client accounts.
• Present regular operational and commercial performance reports to senior management.
• Provide strategic recommendations to support business growth.

• Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and contractual obligations.
• Maintain operational standards that support quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
• Identify operational risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.
• Ensure confidentiality, integrity, and accountability across courier operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's Degree in:
  • Logistics
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Business Administration
  • Transport Management
  • Or a related field
  • 
    

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum of 5 years' professional experience in courier, logistics, transport, or last-mile delivery operations.
• At least 3 years in a senior leadership or management role.
• Demonstrated experience establishing, scaling, and managing courier or logistics operations.
• Proven track record working with reputable courier or logistics companies.
• Strong understanding of nationwide courier operations and logistics management.
• Valid driving permit with practical driving experience.
