Job Overview

Peatfield & Bodgener Architects is seeking a qualified and experienced Clerk of Works to oversee construction activities on site and ensure that all works are completed in accordance with approved architectural, structural and MEP drawings, project specifications, quality standards, safety requirements and applicable building regulations.

The successful candidate will act as the company's representative on site, providing independent inspection, monitoring construction quality, documenting progress and identifying any defects or non-compliance that may affect the successful delivery of the project.

Key Responsibilities
 
  • Inspect construction works to ensure they meet approved drawings, specifications and required quality standards.
  • Verify architectural, structural and MEP works against approved construction drawings.
  • Monitor workmanship and materials used on site to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Identify, document and report construction defects, deviations and instances of non-compliance.
  • Monitor corrective actions and follow up to ensure identified defects are properly resolved.
  • Witness material testing and inspections where required.
  • Maintain accurate daily site records, inspection reports and construction documentation.
  • Prepare photographic progress reports showing the status of construction activities.
  • Monitor project progress and report significant delays, technical concerns and quality issues to the Project Manager or Project Architect.
  • Support the assessment and valuation of completed construction works.
  • Monitor contractors and subcontractors to ensure compliance with approved methods and project specifications.
  • Monitor environmental, health and safety requirements on the construction site.
  • Participate in site meetings, inspections and technical discussions as required.
  • Ensure construction activities comply with applicable building codes, regulations and technical standards.
  • Maintain proper records of inspections, tests, approvals, defects and corrective actions.
  • Provide technical reports and recommendations to the project management team.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience
 
Applicants should have:
 
  • A Bachelor's Degree or Higher National Diploma in Civil Engineering, Building Economics, Architecture, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related field.
  • 5–10 years of relevant experience working as a Clerk of Works, Site Inspector, Site Supervisor or in a similar construction quality-control role.
  • Experience working on medium to large-scale construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of building codes, structural standards and construction safety legislation.
  • Good understanding of architectural, structural and MEP drawings.
  • Competence in CAD/BIM systems and construction documentation.
  • Practical knowledge of construction inspection, quality assurance and site supervision.

Required Skills and Competencies

Construction Quality Inspection

Strong ability to inspect construction activities, materials and workmanship and identify defects or deviations from approved project requirements.

Technical Drawing Interpretation

Ability to accurately read and interpret architectural, structural and MEP drawings and compare them with actual construction works.

Attention to Detail

Excellent attention to detail when reviewing workmanship, measurements, materials, finishes and construction documentation.

Technical Reporting

Strong ability to prepare clear and accurate site inspection reports, daily records, photographic reports and defect documentation.

Contractor Management

Ability to work professionally and firmly with contractors and subcontractors while ensuring that project quality and specifications are maintained.

Health and Safety Awareness

Good understanding of construction-site health and safety requirements and the ability to identify potential risks and non-compliance.

CAD and BIM Competence

Practical knowledge of CAD/BIM systems for reviewing drawings, construction details and project information.

Computer Skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and construction/site reporting tools.

Professional Integrity

High level of honesty, accountability and professional judgment, particularly when reporting construction defects, quality concerns and contractor performance.
