Job Summary

Absa Bank Uganda is seeking a qualified and commercially driven Asset Finance Specialist to support the bank’s Asset Finance strategy within the Personal and Private Banking (PPB) and SME Micro segments.
The successful candidate will support business growth through customer acquisition, dealer relationship management, sales execution, portfolio management, and delivery of customer-focused asset finance solutions.
Reporting to the Head – Asset Finance, the role requires strong business development, sales, relationship management, and financial services knowledge to achieve Asset Finance (AF) and Insurance Premium Finance (IPF) targets while maintaining a healthy loan portfolio within acceptable PAR and NPL limits.

Key Responsibilities

1. Business Development (70%)
The Asset Finance Specialist will:
  • Drive achievement of Asset Finance revenue and balance sheet targets.
  • Develop and implement sales action plans to increase Asset Finance business.
  • Identify and acquire new business from:
    • Asset dealers
    • Existing Absa customers
    • New-to-bank (NTB) customers.
  • Work with Relationship Managers (RMs) and branches to identify Asset Finance opportunities.
  • Support sourcing and underwriting of Asset Finance applications within agreed timelines.
  • Conduct joint customer visits with Branch Managers and Relationship Managers.
  • Assess customer needs and provide suitable asset financing solutions.
  • Support Trade Finance teams in managing facilities transitioning into Asset Finance.
  • Conduct customer sensitization activities and sales activations.
  • Build strong relationships with asset dealer partners.
  • Ensure excellent customer service and adherence to turnaround times (TATs).
  • Monitor business strategies and evaluate performance.
  • Manage sales dashboards and ensure accuracy of management reports.
  • Identify cross-selling and up-selling opportunities.
  • Support implementation of Asset Finance strategy initiatives.
  • Prepare customer visit reports.
  • Ensure all customer documentation is completed and submitted according to procedures.
  • Conduct product training for internal stakeholders.
  • Support Vehicle Asset Finance (VAF) scheme partnerships with target companies.

2. Compliance and Risk Management (5%)

The role will ensure:
  • Compliance with the Banking Act, internal policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Adherence to Asset Finance procedures and service level agreements.
  • Proper review and escalation of sales administration issues.
  • Compliance with business procedure manuals.
  • Effective tracking and resolution of customer complaints.
  • Compliance with internal audit and Snap Check requirements.

3. Stakeholder Management (15%)

The Asset Finance Specialist will manage relationships with:
Internal Stakeholders
  • Retail and Business Banking teams.
  • Branch teams.
  • Credit teams.
  • Operations teams.
  • Trade Finance teams.
  • Asset Finance colleagues.
External Stakeholders
  • Customers.
  • Asset dealers.
  • Business partners.
Responsibilities include:
  • Supporting branches to understand Asset Finance processes.
  • Resolving customer queries and complaints.
  • Supporting teams to achieve business targets.
  • Providing guidance and technical support to colleagues.

4. Market Intelligence (5%)

The successful candidate will:
  • Monitor market developments affecting Asset Finance.
  • Research competitor activities and market opportunities.
  • Collect information through:
    • Industry publications
    • Customer feedback
    • Dealer engagements
    • Professional networks.
  • Conduct regular dealer visits to understand competitor activities.
  • Provide insights to improve business strategies.

Additional Responsibilities

The role will also involve:
  • Following up on post-approval documentation and release letters.
  • Monitoring loan progress and application status.
  • Following up on arrears to maintain a healthy loan portfolio.
  • Growing existing Asset Finance customer portfolios.
  • Managing dealer relationships, including:
    • Dealer onboarding
    • Training
    • Conflict resolution
    • Scheme management.
  • Supervising Asset Finance Direct Sales Representatives within assigned regions.
  • Supporting growth of Bancassurance and Insurance Premium Finance products.
  • Working with marketing teams on brand visibility.
  • Ensuring processing timelines and SLAs are achieved.
  • Training branch Asset Finance champions.
  • Supporting complaint management.
  • Gathering market and competitor intelligence.

Required Qualifications

Applicants should possess:
  • Further Education and Training Certificate (FETC) in:
    • Business Studies
    • Commerce
    • Management Studies
    • Finance
    • Banking
    • Related disciplines.
A higher qualification such as a Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Banking, or related fields will be an added advantage.

  • Experience in banking, financial services, sales, or lending.
  • Knowledge of Asset Finance products and processes.
  • Strong customer acquisition and relationship management skills.
