JOB VACANCY: ACCOUNTANT / FINANCE OFFICER (CONSTRUCTION & OIL & GAS SECTOR)
A multi-disciplinary company providing professional services in Construction, Healthcare, Oil & Gas, and Procurement is recruiting a qualified and results-driven finance professional.
JOB SUMMARY
The Accountant/Finance Officer will ensure financial accountability, statutory compliance, and accurate financial reporting. The role involves managing transactions, supporting audits, maintaining records, and ensuring timely tax filings including VAT, PAYE, NSSF, and URSB obligations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Financial & Project Accounting
  • Record and process all financial transactions (sales, purchases, payments, receipts)
  • Maintain accurate accounting records in line with IFRS and company policies
  • Manage source documents (LPOs, GRNs, invoices, delivery notes)
  • Perform month-end reconciliations (bank, receivables, inventory, fixed assets)
  • Track project profitability and expenses per project
  • Monitor project budgets vs actual expenditure
  • Prepare Interim Payment Certificates and client invoices
  • Maintain and update fixed asset register
2. Financial Reporting & Audit Support
  • Prepare weekly and monthly financial performance reports
  • Support preparation of management accounts (monthly, quarterly, annual)
  • Assist auditors with documentation and audit queries
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS, Ugandan GAAP, and ISO 9001:2015 systems
  • Participate in internal audits and implement corrective actions
3. STATUTORY & TAX COMPLIANCE
  • File VAT, PAYE, WHT, Income Tax, NSSF, LST, and URSB returns
  • Ensure compliance with Ugandan tax regulations
  • Support tax planning and compliance strategies
4. ACCOUNTS PAYABLE & RECEIVABLES
  • Manage invoicing, payments, and supplier/client communications
  • Monitor receivables and payables and ensure timely settlements
  • Prepare project valuation reports and payment certificates
  • Prepare budget variance reports
5. CASHFLOW & FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
  • Support cash flow management and liquidity planning
  • Manage bank transactions, withdrawals, deposits, and payments
  • Assist in payroll preparation
  • Handle petty cash and ensure proper documentation
  • Support preparation of banking documents (LOCs, guarantees, etc.)
  • Monitor financial risks including credit and currency exposure
6. COLLABORATION & REPORTING
  • Work closely with Finance Manager and Project Managers
  • Support project performance reviews and financial reporting
  • Coordinate with procurement and operations teams
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA / ACCA / Tax certification (preferred)
  • At least 2 years’ experience in accounting or finance
  • Experience in construction, engineering, or oil & gas sector is an added advantage
  • Knowledge of ERP systems and financial software
  • Strong understanding of Ugandan tax laws

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Office-based role
  • Occasional travel to project sites
  • Full-time position with possible overtime during peak periods
