Job Description – Senior (LV/HV) Certified Electrical Technician | EACOP | Uganda
The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project is seeking a highly skilled Senior (LV/HV) Certified Electrical Technician to support electrical operations and maintenance across assigned pipeline and facility perimeters. The role is field-based and involves working across remote operational sites including terminals, pressure reduction stations, valve stations, and related infrastructure.
The Electrical Technician will report to the Electrical Engineer and work under the supervision of site operations leadership and maintenance management depending on the assigned perimeter.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Maintenance & Operations
  • Execute preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance (CM) on electrical systems and equipment
  • Perform troubleshooting, fault diagnosis, and repair of complex electrical systems
  • Maintain and monitor MV, HV, and LV electrical systems, switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, PLCs, and motors
  • Maintain standby generators, UPS systems, solar systems, and battery energy storage systems
Equipment & System Monitoring
  • Monitor daily operation of electrical systems across assigned facilities
  • Inspect transformers, circuit breakers, protection relays, and control systems
  • Support maintenance of actuated valves, hydraulic systems, and associated electrical equipment
Field Operations & Reporting
  • Execute maintenance activities in remote and multi-site environments
  • Record maintenance activities, faults, and anomalies in CMMS systems
  • Prepare daily and weekly maintenance and operational reports
  • Provide feedback on spare parts usage and stock requirements
Safety, HSE & Compliance
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety standards and company procedures
  • Participate in risk assessments, toolbox talks, and permit-to-work systems
  • Promote safe work practices and environmental protection standards
  • Respond to electrical emergencies and system upsets
Planning & Technical Support
  • Support preparation of maintenance work packs and procedures
  • Assist in development of shutdown and operational instructions
  • Contribute to annual maintenance planning and execution
  • Provide technical input to improve SOPs and maintenance procedures
Requirements
Education & Certification
  • Higher Diploma or Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Valid Electrical Certification license from ERA
  • Class B Permit (mandatory)
Experience
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Oil & Gas, power generation, or mining industries
  • Strong experience in HV, MV, and LV power distribution systems
  • Experience with transformers, switchgear, MCCs, UPS systems, generators, and protection relays
Skills
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  • Good knowledge of electrical maintenance systems and CMMS
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Strong commitment to safety and operational discipline
  • Ability to work in remote and challenging environments
Work Conditions
  • Field-based role across multiple EACOP operational sites
  • Frequent travel to remote locations required
