For this opportunity, Q-Sourcing is recruiting on behalf of its client in the Oil & Gas sector for a skilled and experienced Control Room Assistant to support operations at an Entebbe fuel terminal.
Job Summary
The Control Room Assistant will work alongside the Control Room In-Charge to provide daily technical support to terminal operations and other departments.
The role is responsible for supporting the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of instrumentation, communication, and control systems at the terminal.
The successful candidate will contribute to the safe and reliable operation of terminal systems, including SCADA, PLCs, CCTV, access control, fire detection and alarm systems, networking infrastructure, servers, and associated equipment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Instrumentation and Control Systems
  • Monitor, inspect, calibrate, and maintain instrumentation and control systems and equipment across the terminal.
  • Identify defects, faults, and system anomalies.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems and implement appropriate continuity and restoration measures.
  • Ensure terminal instrumentation and control systems remain reliable and operational.
2. Fire, Security and Communication Systems
  • Install, test, repair, and maintain:
    • Fire detection systems
    • Fire alarms
    • Fire-fighting equipment
    • Networking systems
    • Storage systems
    • CCTV systems
    • Access control systems
  • Ensure these systems operate reliably and effectively.
  • Support the maintenance of critical safety and security infrastructure at the terminal.
3. SCADA and PLC Systems
  • Support enhancements and improvements to SCADA equipment and PLC systems.
  • Assist with maintenance of servers and associated hardware.
  • Evaluate and support the selection of replacement or upgraded equipment.
  • Assist with installation and configuration of replacement or upgraded devices.
  • Help ensure control systems remain reliable and suitable for operational requirements.
4. Operations Support
  • Work closely with the Operations Department to monitor terminal activities.
  • Record and maintain operational information.
  • Support communication of important operational parameters.
  • Assist with identifying operational issues requiring technical intervention.
5. Documentation and Reporting
  • Prepare and maintain records relating to technical and operational activities.
  • Produce written reports documenting completed work and identified issues.
  • Maintain accurate information regarding system maintenance, repairs, inspections, and equipment status.
6. IT Equipment and Inventory Management
  • Maintain an inventory of company:
    • Computers
    • Software
    • Data storage devices
    • Related IT equipment
  • Work with vendors and service providers to support procurement and maintenance.
  • Monitor relevant service contracts and warranties.
  • Ensure equipment and services required for terminal operations are properly supported.
Required Academic Qualification
Applicants should have:
  • A Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering or
  • A Diploma in Instrumentation & Control.
Required Experience
Candidates should have at least 2 years of relevant professional experience, specifically in instrumentation and control or electrical engineering.
Experience should ideally be gained in one or more of the following environments:
  • Oil & Gas terminals or depots
  • Power plants
  • Electricity distribution
  • Manufacturing facilities
Technical Knowledge
Knowledge of the following will be an advantage:
  • Control systems
  • Electronics
  • SCADA
  • PLC systems
  • Computer networking
  • Database management
  • Instrumentation and control systems
  • Industrial communication systems
