JOB OVERVIEW
Bureau Veritas, a global leader in testing, inspection, and certification services, is seeking a qualified Mechanical Engineer to support its operations in Uganda.
The role focuses on delivering high-level technical expertise in mechanical inspections, testing, certification, and compliance assessments across industrial systems, ensuring adherence to international standards and regulatory requirements.
This position plays a critical role in promoting safety, quality assurance, environmental protection, and operational excellence across client facilities.

JOB PURPOSE
The Mechanical Engineer will provide expert technical support in the inspection, testing, and certification of mechanical systems. The role ensures that equipment, infrastructure, and industrial assets comply with API, ASME, ISO, and Ugandan regulatory standards.
The position contributes to Bureau Veritas’ mission of ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant industrial operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Inspections & Assessments
  • Conduct in-service and pre-service inspections of pressure vessels, piping systems, and mechanical equipment.
  • Apply international standards including API, ASME, ISO 9712, and ISO 9001.
  • Perform visual inspections, NDT, thickness measurements, and corrosion assessments.
  • Apply risk-based inspection (RBI) principles in technical evaluations.
Reporting & Certification
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports outlining findings, non-conformances, and recommendations.
  • Issue certification documentation based on compliance verification.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records aligned with Bureau Veritas quality systems.
Client Engagement & Technical Support
  • Communicate technical findings and recommendations to clients.
  • Respond to technical inquiries and provide professional engineering guidance.
  • Deliver presentations and technical briefings to clients and stakeholders.
  • Support quotation preparation, tenders, and service proposals.
Site Supervision & Quality Assurance
  • Supervise inspection activities at client sites and industrial facilities.
  • Coordinate with contractors and internal teams during field operations.
  • Ensure adherence to Bureau Veritas quality management systems.
  • Maintain compliance with inspection procedures and documentation standards.
Health, Safety & Risk Management
  • Conduct site risk assessments and enforce HSE compliance standards.
  • Promote a strong safety culture across all inspection activities.
  • Identify mechanical and operational risks and recommend mitigation measures.
  • Participate in safety briefings, toolbox talks, and hazard reporting.
Training & Professional Development
  • Mentor junior engineers and inspection technicians.
  • Support continuous learning and technical capability development.
  • Stay updated on evolving international engineering standards.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Additional certifications are an added advantage:
    • LEEA certification
    • ISO 9712
    • API 570 / API 653
    • CSWIP 3.1 or CSWIP 3.2.2

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum 4–6 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering or inspection roles.
  • Strong experience in industrial inspection, oil & gas, or heavy engineering environments preferred.
  • Proven ability to apply international engineering codes and standards.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & EXPERTISE
  • API 653, API 570, ASME BPVC, ISO 9712, ISO 9001
  • Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques
  • Mechanical systems: pressure vessels, piping, welding, metallurgy
  • Corrosion mechanisms and failure analysis
  • CAD interpretation and inspection software tools
  • Microsoft Office and technical reporting tools
