Job Summary
The Grant Accountant will provide financial management support for the Women Economic Empowerment Credit Facility and Credit Solutions project. The role involves managing grant finances, processing payments, preparing financial reports, supporting donor reporting requirements, maintaining accounting records, monitoring budgets, and ensuring compliance with financial policies, tax regulations, and donor agreements.
The successful candidate will work closely with project teams, finance departments, donors, and internal stakeholders to ensure accurate financial reporting and effective management of grant resources.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reporting
  • Prepare and post accounting journal entries for project revenues, expenses, assets, and liabilities.
  • Record financial transactions accurately using approved accounting systems.
  • Prepare monthly financial reconciliations for grants, income, expenditure, and general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare monthly finance reports with clear explanations and analysis.
  • Support preparation of donor financial reports according to grant agreements.
  • Maintain accurate supporting documentation for all project expenditures.
Grant Management & Budget Monitoring
  • Monitor project expenditure against approved budgets.
  • Identify potential budget variances and communicate corrective actions to management.
  • Ensure grant funds are utilized according to donor requirements and agreements.
  • Support preparation of financial proposals for new and existing grants.
  • Track grant performance and provide financial insights to project teams.
Payments & Vendor Management
  • Process and manage vendor invoices after obtaining required approvals.
  • Review and settle staff claims according to financial procedures.
  • Ensure payments are correctly allocated to donor and project accounts.
  • Respond promptly to financial queries from internal and external stakeholders.
Asset Management
  • Maintain accurate project fixed asset registers.
  • Ensure newly purchased assets are properly recorded and capitalized.
  • Conduct asset verification and ensure records remain accurate.
Tax Compliance & Risk Management
  • Prepare and submit tax returns and related payments.
  • Maintain tax records and reconcile tax accounts.
  • Support implementation of financial controls to reduce errors, fraud, and compliance risks.
  • Identify financial risks and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
Audit & Compliance Support
  • Support internal and external audits by providing required financial information.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, donor regulations, and reporting frameworks.
  • Maintain proper financial filing systems and documentation.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Finance and Accounting is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a Not-For-Profit environment.
  • Experience in financial reporting, budgeting, accounting systems, and tax reporting.
  • Knowledge of donor-funded projects and grant financial management is highly desirable.

  • Knowledge of tax compliance requirements.
