Baikal Financial Services Ltd is one of Uganda’s growing financial institutions, providing accessible financial solutions that support individuals, businesses, and communities. The company is seeking a skilled, motivated, and detail-oriented Accountant to join its dynamic team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional with strong analytical skills and experience in financial reporting, reconciliations, statutory compliance, and lending-related accounting.

JOB SUMMARY

The Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate accounting records, processing financial transactions, managing reconciliations, supporting loan and asset financing accounting, preparing statutory returns, and producing management financial reports.

The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of accounting principles, Ugandan tax requirements, and financial services or microfinance operations. Experience in lending, Boda Boda financing, or asset financing will be an added advantage.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Maintain accurate books of accounts and post journal entries.
- Accurately post borrower loan repayments to the correct customer and accounting accounts.
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and vendor payments.
- Perform monthly bank, cash, and loan reconciliations.
- Support accounting for loan disbursements and asset financing.
- Prepare and file statutory returns, including VAT, PAYE, WHT, and NSSF.
- Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports.
- Maintain complete and well-organized accounting documentation.
- Support internal and external audit preparation, documentation, and financial reviews.
- Identify and investigate accounting discrepancies, errors, and unusual transactions.
- Ensure accounting records are accurate, complete, and maintained in accordance with applicable financial and regulatory requirements.
- Support the improvement of accounting processes and financial controls.
- Work with other departments to ensure timely and accurate financial information.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA or ACCA qualification, either part-qualified or currently pursuing.
- 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in microfinance, lending, banking, or financial services.
- Experience in Boda Boda or asset financing is an added advantage.
- Proficiency in accounting software, core banking systems, and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong knowledge of Ugandan tax requirements.
- Knowledge of microfinance and financial services regulations.
- Strong analytical, organizational, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- High integrity, professionalism, confidentiality, and accountability.
