Through the Forest Garden Approach, TREES supports farmers to restore their land, grow diverse crops, plant trees, and create resilient livelihoods. The organisation has planted more than 400 million trees worldwide and works across several African countries, including Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.
In Uganda, TREES is implementing programmes across the Lake Victoria Watershed, working with thousands of smallholder farmers to promote sustainable farming practices, climate resilience, and improved livelihoods.

Job Summary

Trees for the Future is seeking a skilled and creative Communication Coordinator to lead the implementation of the organisation’s communication strategy in Uganda.
The successful candidate will manage internal and external communication activities, strengthen organisational visibility, coordinate media engagement, develop communication materials, document programme impact, and ensure consistent branding across all communication platforms.
The Communication Coordinator will work closely with programme teams, donors, partners, media stakeholders, and the regional communications team to showcase TREES Uganda’s achievements, farmer success stories, environmental impact, and community transformation.

About the Communication Coordinator Role

The Communication Coordinator will be responsible for developing compelling stories, managing communication campaigns, producing multimedia content, supporting donor engagement, and ensuring that all communication activities align with organisational goals and donor requirements.
The role combines strategic communication, public relations, digital media, storytelling, photography, videography, advocacy, and knowledge management.
The position reports to the Country Director and works closely with the Regional Marketing and Communications Manager.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Communication Planning
  • Develop and implement communication plans aligned with TREES Uganda’s programme objectives.
  • Coordinate communication activities that promote organisational visibility and stakeholder engagement.
  • Work with programme teams to create clear messages, information materials, and success stories.
  • Monitor communication performance indicators and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Support evidence-based communication approaches using programme data and lessons learned.
2. Branding and Visibility Management
  • Ensure all communication materials follow TREES branding guidelines.
  • Support teams with donor visibility requirements and communication standards.
  • Develop branded materials for campaigns, events, and community engagement activities.
  • Ensure communication products represent the organisation professionally and consistently.
3. Media Relations and Public Engagement
  • Build strong relationships with journalists, media houses, influencers, and communication networks.
  • Prepare press releases, media kits, talking points, and public statements.
  • Coordinate interviews, media visits, and public engagement activities.
  • Maintain updated media contact databases.
  • Support campaigns aimed at increasing awareness of TREES programmes.
4. Content Development and Storytelling
  • Produce high-quality communication materials including:

  • Conduct field visits to document farmer experiences, programme achievements, and environmental impact.

5. Knowledge Management and Learning
  • Develop learning briefs, impact stories, and best practice documents.
  • Support organisational learning through documentation and knowledge sharing.
  • Maintain organised communication databases and digital archives.
  • Promote sharing of programme achievements among staff, donors, and partners.
6. Donor Support and Programme Visibility
  • Support donor visits by preparing communication materials and impact stories.
  • Document programme results through compelling narratives and visuals.
  • Coordinate with global communication teams on international communication needs.
  • Ensure donor communication requirements are met.
7. Ethical Communication and Safeguarding
  • Ensure all communication materials follow ethical storytelling standards.
  • Obtain proper consent before publishing photos, videos, and personal stories.
  • Promote respectful and inclusive communication.
  • Ensure content protects the dignity and privacy of communities and farmers.

Required Qualifications and Experience
