Mota Engil Uganda is seeking a skilled Auto Electrician to support vehicle, machinery, and equipment maintenance operations by ensuring reliable performance of electrical and electronic systems.
Job Summary
The Auto Electrician will be responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting electrical and electronic systems in various vehicles, heavy-duty equipment, machinery, and engineering assets.
The successful candidate will perform electrical diagnostics, preventive maintenance, repairs, and inspections to ensure that company vehicles and equipment remain safe, reliable, and operational while minimizing downtime.
Key Responsibilities
Vehicle and Equipment Electrical Maintenance
- Maintain and repair electrical systems in:
- Petrol engine vehicles.
- Diesel vehicles.
- Heavy-duty trucks.
- Construction machinery.
- Engineering equipment.
- Carry out preventive maintenance activities on electrical components.
- Ensure vehicles and equipment operate efficiently and safely.
Electrical Diagnosis and Repairs
- Diagnose and repair faults affecting:
- Electrical wiring systems.
- Batteries.
- Alternators.
- Starter motors.
- Ignition systems.
- Fuses.
- Lamps and lighting systems.
- Perform electrical inspections and functional checks.
- Identify electrical failures and implement effective solutions.
Automotive Electronic Systems
- Install, maintain, and repair automotive electrical components including:
- Sensors.
- Gauges.
- Lighting systems.
- Electronic control modules.
- Vehicle monitoring systems.
- Diagnose electronic vehicle faults using appropriate diagnostic tools.
- Troubleshoot computerized vehicle control systems.
Technical Documentation and Diagnostics
- Interpret and use:
- Electrical wiring diagrams.
- Technical manuals.
- Schematics.
- Technical drawings.
- Use diagnostic scanners and testing equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of:
- Repairs completed.
- Inspections conducted.
- Maintenance activities.
Preventive Maintenance and Improvement
- Apply preventive maintenance standards during servicing and repairs.
- Identify opportunities to improve electrical maintenance efficiency.
- Recommend solutions that reduce equipment downtime.
- Work closely with maintenance teams to ensure equipment reliability.
Health and Safety Compliance
- Follow company safety procedures when working on:
- Electrical systems.
- Machinery.
- Vehicles.
- Heavy equipment.
- Ensure safe handling of electrical tools and equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized working environment.
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
- Support maintenance teams during operational challenges.
- Participate in inspections and equipment improvement activities.
Qualifications and Requirements
Academic Qualifications
Applicants should have:
- Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical Engineering.
OR
- Technical/Vocational Certificate in:
- Automotive Electrical Systems.
- Electromechanics.
- Auto Electrical Engineering.
- A related technical field.
Candidates should also have relevant experience in plant and equipment maintenance.
Professional Experience
Required experience:
- Minimum 5 years’ proven experience as an Auto Electrician.
- Experience working with:
- Light vehicles.
- Heavy commercial vehicles.
- Construction equipment.
- Industrial machinery.
Experience with heavy equipment maintenance will be an added advantage.
Technical Skills Required
Automotive Electrical Skills
Strong knowledge of:
- Vehicle electrical systems.
