Job Summary
Mota-Engil Uganda is seeking an AC/Refrigeration Technician (HVAC-R) responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
The successful candidate will ensure that HVAC-R equipment operates efficiently, safely, and reliably by carrying out preventive maintenance, diagnosing faults, responding to breakdowns, and completing corrective repairs.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC-R equipment to maintain optimal performance and reduce downtime.
- Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration faults and carry out appropriate repairs.
- Maintain and repair refrigeration equipment including industrial freezers, chillers, compressors, condensers, and evaporators.
- Inspect, test, and replace defective electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration circuit components.
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and emergency maintenance requests.
- Conduct refrigerant charging, leak detection, and system performance checks according to technical standards.
- Identify required spare parts, tools, and materials and submit maintenance requisitions.
- Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, completed repairs, and equipment condition.
- Ensure all work complies with company safety procedures, health requirements, and environmental standards.
- Work closely with other technicians and maintenance teams to complete assignments efficiently and on schedule.
- Provide support with AC electrical works and related maintenance activities when required.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should have:
- A Degree or Diploma in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Engineering or a related technical field.
- At least 2–3 years of practical experience in AC installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC-R systems, refrigeration cycles, and AC electrical controls.
- Ability to diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration faults.
- Knowledge of refrigeration tools, equipment, servicing techniques, and maintenance procedures.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
- Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a technical team.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
