AYFI is seeking passionate and creative Volunteer Reporters to support media coverage, documentation, communication, and reporting activities during the High-Level Youth Dialogue with Policy-Makers Summit.

Job Summary

Africa Youth Forum International (AYFI) is looking for enthusiastic and creative Volunteer Reporters to support the documentation and communication of summit activities.
The successful candidates will assist in gathering information, writing reports, capturing key event highlights, conducting interviews, preparing stories, and supporting media and communication activities before, during, and after the summit.
This opportunity is ideal for individuals interested in journalism, communications, media relations, content creation, public relations, research, and nonprofit communications.

Key Responsibilities

Media Coverage and Reporting
  • Attend summit sessions and document key discussions, activities, and outcomes.
  • Write news articles, event summaries, reports, and feature stories.
  • Capture important moments, participant experiences, and stakeholder contributions.
  • Support the development of media content for communication platforms.
  • Identify key stories and highlights from summit activities.
Content Creation and Documentation
  • Assist in preparing written content for newsletters, websites, and social media platforms.
  • Support photography, interviews, and event documentation where required.
  • Collect quotes and insights from speakers, participants, and partners.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records of summit activities.
  • Contribute ideas for storytelling and audience engagement.
Communication and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Support communication activities before, during, and after the summit.
  • Assist with interviews and information gathering from participants and guests.
  • Work closely with the communications team and other volunteers.
  • Ensure accurate and professional representation of AYFI activities.
  • Promote positive visibility of the summit and participating stakeholders.
Research and Reporting Support
  • Conduct background research on summit topics and speakers where required.
  • Assist in preparing reports and documentation materials.
  • Verify information before publication.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information obtained during assignments.
Team Collaboration
  • Participate in volunteer orientation, training sessions, and briefing meetings.
  • Collaborate with staff, speakers, delegates, partners, and fellow volunteers.
  • Complete assigned tasks within agreed timelines.
  • Follow event guidelines, communication standards, and organisational procedures.
  • Perform other duties assigned to support successful summit delivery.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants should possess:
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree, or be a current student in Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Studies, Communications, Public Relations, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in journalism, youth leadership, governance, policy, development, or event coverage.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to collect, analyse, and present information clearly.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to engage different audiences.
  • Strong organisational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Positive attitude, professionalism, and willingness to learn.
  • Basic computer literacy including Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.
  • Fluency in English; additional languages are an advantage.
