Evidence Action is hiring for a Community Services Assistant (CSA).
Role Overview
The Community Services Assistant is a field-based role supporting the Safe Water Now program by ensuring continuous chlorine supply, proper dispenser installation, maintenance, and community engagement to promote safe water usage and reduce waterborne diseases.
Key Responsibilities
  • Install chlorine dispensers at water points following technical guidelines
  • Deliver chlorine to designated dispensers using a motorcycle
  • Conduct regular maintenance and hardware checks of dispensers
  • Ensure safe handling, storage, and accountability of chlorine stocks
  • Maintain accurate inventory and reporting records
  • Engage communities through outreach, meetings, and education on safe water practices
  • Work with community promoters to sustain dispenser usage
  • Conduct weekly check-ins with promoters and resolve field challenges
  • Collect and report field data using smartphones and digital tools
  • Report operational issues and community feedback to supervisors

  • Dispenser functionality rate
  • Number of functional dispensers maintained
  • Chlorine stock accuracy
  • Promoter retention and engagement
  • Community education reach
  • Data accuracy and timeliness
  • Issue resolution speed
Requirements
  • Diploma in Community Development, Social Work, Public Health, Environmental Health, Project Management, or related field
  • 1–2 years’ experience in community or NGO/social enterprise work
  • Fluency in English and local languages (Lumasaba, Lusoga, Lugwere, Samia, etc.)
  • Valid motorcycle riding license (Class A) is mandatory
  • Experience with mobile data tools (ODK, SurveyCTO, MS Word)
  • Stock management experience is an added advantage
  • Plumbing experience is an added advantage

Location
Mbale or Bugiri (and surrounding districts), Eastern Uganda
