About AMBSO
Africa Medical and Behavioral Sciences Organization (AMBSO) is a Private Not-for-Profit (PNFP) organization headquartered in Nansana along Hoima Road, with satellite offices in Hoima and Kalisizo (Kyotera District). AMBSO conducts public health research, community-based surveillance, clinical research, healthcare service delivery programs, and capacity building for health workers and communities.
Position Overview
Job Title: Accounts Assistant (1 Position)
Location: Kalisizo – Kyotera District (Masaka Clinical Research Site)
AMBSO is seeking a qualified, committed, and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to support financial operations at its Masaka Clinical Research Site.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Accurately post and update financial transactions in accounting systems in line with organizational procedures.
  • Verify payment requests and supporting documents for accuracy, completeness, and budget compliance.
  • Monitor expenditures against approved budgets and report variances to supervisors.
  • Process payments and maintain proper financial records.
  • Manage petty cash, including disbursements, reconciliations, and replenishments.
  • Bank all cash receipts and prepare banking and cash reports.
  • Perform monthly cashbook and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Support preparation of statutory returns (PAYE, WHT, LST, NSSF).
  • Assist in budget preparation, monitoring, and financial reporting.
  • Maintain proper filing systems for financial records and audit documentation.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing required financial information.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration (Accounting option), Commerce, or related field.
  • At least 1 year of relevant accounting or finance experience.
  • Professional qualifications (CPA, ACCA, CAT) are an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • High integrity, attention to detail, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Willingness to live and work in a rural setting (Kalisizo, Kyotera).
