Tax & Accounts Payable Accountant – d.light Uganda

Job Purpose
The Tax & Accounts Payable (AP) Accountant is responsible for ensuring full compliance with Ugandan tax regulations and statutory requirements while supporting accounts payable operations. The role safeguards the organization against tax risks, strengthens internal controls, and ensures accurate tax reporting in alignment with global tax strategies.
This position contributes to maintaining strong financial governance and supports the mission of d.light to transform lives through sustainable energy solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance and Reporting
  • Prepare, review, and submit statutory tax filings including VAT, PAYE, corporate income tax, and withholding tax.
  • Ensure timely reconciliation of tax accounts in line with financial reporting standards.
  • Maintain compliance with Ugandan tax laws and proactively manage tax risks.
  • Prepare tax schedules for audits and financial reporting purposes.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Controller to ensure accurate tax provisions.
Tax Advisory and Transactional Tax Treatment
  • Provide guidance on tax implications for contracts, transactions, and capital expenditures.
  • Advise on VAT and withholding tax compliance for suppliers and service providers.
  • Assess tax risks for new business initiatives and expansion plans.
  • Support structuring of tax-efficient transactions in compliance with local and international laws.
Tax Audits and Dispute Resolution
  • Support tax audits and coordinate with tax authorities.
  • Respond to tax queries and ensure timely resolution of issues.
  • Maintain complete documentation for audits and compliance reviews.
Legislative Monitoring and Advisory

Qualifications & Experience
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Taxation.
  • CPA, ACCA, or equivalent professional certification is preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in tax compliance, audit, or regulatory reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of Ugandan tax laws (VAT, PAYE, corporate tax).
  • Experience handling tax audits and resolving disputes.
  • Experience in multinational or fast-paced environments is an advantage.

Job Purpose
The incumbent is responsible for driving customer retention objectives by planning, coordinating, and managing territory-based retention and collections activities. The role focuses on improving customer experience, strengthening collections performance, and supporting credit risk control across assigned teams.
This position plays a key role in ensuring operational efficiency, team productivity, and customer satisfaction within d.light.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Performance Management
  • Ensure recruitment and productivity of collection officers.
