CONSERVATION DIRECTOR JOB AT WWF UGANDA (KAMPALA)
Job Summary:
The Conservation Director leads WWF Uganda’s conservation programmes, ensuring strategic planning, implementation, and integration of thematic and landscape-based conservation initiatives. The role focuses on delivering transformational environmental impact, strengthening partnerships, influencing policy, and ensuring alignment with WWF global conservation goals and Uganda’s national development priorities.
The position also provides leadership in programme design, fundraising, policy advocacy, team management, and stakeholder engagement across government, donors, civil society, and private sector actors.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead development and implementation of WWF Uganda’s conservation strategy aligned with global WWF goals
  • Oversee integrated conservation programmes across thematic and geographical landscapes
  • Coordinate policy engagement, advocacy, and stakeholder collaboration at national and regional levels
  • Provide strategic technical guidance on conservation issues and emerging environmental trends
  • Manage programme design, planning, budgeting, implementation, and reporting
  • Ensure strong financial oversight and accountability of conservation programmes
  • Support fundraising, proposal development, and resource mobilization
  • Build and maintain partnerships with donors, government, NGOs, and private sector actors
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop conservation staff and leadership teams
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and social safeguards in all projects
  • Represent WWF Uganda in high-level national and international forums
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Advanced degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Biology, or related field
  • Minimum 10 years professional experience in leadership roles
  • At least 3–5 years experience in East Africa (preferably Uganda)
  • Proven experience managing large, multi-disciplinary conservation programmes
  • Strong background in policy engagement, advocacy, and stakeholder management
  • Experience managing donor-funded programmes (USD 1–2 million+ annually)
  • Strong leadership, communication, and strategic planning skills
  • Experience working with governments, NGOs, and international donors
  • Knowledge of Uganda’s environmental and legal frameworks
  • Ability to manage complex teams and large-scale conservation projects
