Tax & Compliance Accountant Job in Uganda – Airtel Uganda (Finance Department)

Job Type: Full-Time
Job Summary – Tax & Compliance Accountant Role
Airtel Uganda is seeking a skilled Tax & Compliance Accountant to ensure full compliance with Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) requirements and all statutory tax obligations. The role involves managing direct and indirect taxes, supporting audits, preparing tax returns, and ensuring accurate financial reporting in line with regulatory standards.
This position is ideal for a detail-oriented finance professional with strong expertise in tax accounting, compliance, and advisory services.
Key Responsibilities – Tax & Compliance Accountant
1. Tax Return Preparation & Compliance
  • Prepare VAT, WHT, Excise Duty, and PAYE tax returns
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of statutory tax returns
  • Issue Withholding Tax (WHT) certificates for vendors
  • Maintain complete tax documentation for audit purposes
2. Tax Advisory & Support
  • Provide tax advisory services to minimize tax exposure
  • Respond to URA tax audit queries and investigations
  • Support internal and external auditors with required documentation
  • Review supplier payments for tax compliance and accuracy
3. Tax Reporting & Reconciliation
  • Reconcile tax accounts with the general ledger monthly
  • Post journal entries (JVs) to resolve tax discrepancies
  • Prepare monthly and group tax reports
  • Support quarterly and annual statutory audits
4. Stakeholder Management
  • Maintain strong relationships with Uganda Revenue Authority (URA)
  • Liaise with tax consultants, suppliers, and clearing agents
  • Support internal departments with tax-related guidance
5. Compliance & Controls
  • Ensure compliance with internal tax policies and regulations
  • Monitor tax dashboards and resolve outstanding issues
  • Support transfer pricing documentation and reporting
  • Participate in Internal Control Framework (ICOFR) reporting
6. Tax Case Management
  • Maintain and update tax case registers
  • Attend court hearings and support legal tax cases
  • Ensure proper accounting for tax provisions and disputes
7. Additional Responsibilities
  • Support EFRIS invoice processing and system integration
  • Assist with Tax Clearance Certificates (TCCs) for business operations
  • Handle tax residency certificate applications
  • Support audits and regulatory documentation requests
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business, Law, or related field
  • Professional qualification such as CPA, ACCA, CIMA, or CFA (preferred or in final stages)
Experience
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in tax accounting or tax advisory role
  • Experience in statutory tax returns and compliance processes
Skills Required
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Good knowledge of URA tax systems and procedures
