Head of Home Loans / Mortgage Business
Location: Kampala, Uganda
Industry: Banking / Retail Lending
Job Purpose
The Head of Home Loans will provide strategic leadership for the bank’s mortgage and home financing portfolio. The role is responsible for driving business growth, achieving annual mortgage targets, ensuring strong portfolio quality, and delivering a superior customer experience.
This position plays a key role in positioning the bank as a leading provider of home financing solutions in Uganda.
Key Responsibilities
1. Mortgage Business Strategy & Growth
  •  Develop and execute the bank’s mortgage growth strategy aligned with retail banking objectives 
  •  Drive achievement of annual disbursement, revenue, and market share targets 
  •  Introduce innovative approaches to expand home loan penetration in the market 
2. Product Development & Competitiveness
  •  Design and enhance mortgage products for different customer segments 
  •  Ensure products remain competitive, compliant, and aligned with market trends 
  •  Continuously review pricing, features, and customer value propositions 
3. Portfolio Management & Performance
  •  Manage the overall mortgage loan book to ensure profitability and asset quality 
  •  Monitor key performance indicators including disbursements, NPL levels, and acquisition rates 
  •  Implement strategies to improve portfolio performance and reduce credit risk 
4. Sales & Channel Development
  •  Drive mortgage sales through branches, digital channels, and strategic partnerships 
  •  Set sales targets and monitor performance across teams and distribution channels 
  •  Support business development initiatives that expand customer reach 
5. Risk, Compliance & Credit Governance
  •  Ensure all mortgage products and processes comply with regulatory and internal policies 
  •  Work closely with Credit, Risk, and Compliance teams to safeguard portfolio quality 
  •  Oversee credit assessment standards and due diligence processes 
  •  Identify and mitigate lending risks proactively 
6. Stakeholder & Partnership Management
  •  Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners, including: 
    •  Property developers 
    •  Real estate agents 
    •  Valuers 
    •  Legal firms 
    •  Insurance providers 
  •  Strengthen the bank’s mortgage ecosystem through collaboration and partnerships 
7. Leadership & Team Development
  •  Lead, mentor, and develop mortgage sales and operations teams 
  •  Foster a high-performance, customer-focused culture 
  •  Drive accountability and execution across the function 
Qualifications & Experience
Education
  •  Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field 
  •  Master’s degree in Business, Commerce, or related discipline (preferred) 
Experience
  •  8–10 years’ experience in home loans, mortgage finance, or specialist lending 
  •  Proven experience managing sales teams in financial services 
  •  Strong track record in developing and managing senior stakeholder relationships 
  •  Experience in retail banking or mortgage lending is essential
