About UPDF Recruitment 2026
The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has announced the commencement of Phase Three Physical Recruitment under the General Recruitment Exercise 2026. The exercise will take place from 10th August 2026 to 22nd August 2026 across designated recruitment centres in Uganda.
The recruitment exercise provides an opportunity for eligible Ugandan citizens who have expressed interest in serving their country through the national defence forces.
Recruitment Summary
Only candidates who have been shortlisted are required to report to the designated recruitment centres within their respective districts as indicated on the official recruitment schedule.
Shortlisted candidates must appear physically at their assigned centres with all required documents and follow the recruitment guidelines provided by UPDF.
Required Documents for Shortlisted Candidates
Candidates reporting for physical recruitment must come with the following:
  • Handwritten application letter addressed to the Joint Staff Human Resource Management – UPDF.
  • Recommendation letters from:
    • Local Council I (LCI)
    • Local Council III (LCIII)
    • GISO/DISO
  • Three (3) coloured passport-size photographs.
  • Original National Identity Card.
  • Original academic documents.
  • Photocopies of academic documents.
  • Certified graduate documents where applicable.
Important Recruitment Information
  • UPDF recruitment is free of charge.
  • The public is warned against fraudsters, agents, or individuals claiming to facilitate recruitment.
  • No agents or intermediaries are authorised to recruit on behalf of UPDF.
  • Any suspected cases of fraud should immediately be reported to:
    • The nearest Police Station.
    • DISO office.
    • Nearest UPDF unit.
After Successful Recruitment
Successful candidates will receive individual reporting dates and instructions to join their respective UPDF training centres.
Selected recruits will undergo the required training and preparation to serve as members of a professional and disciplined national defence force.
