Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare well-researched lectures and deliver them to undergraduate and postgraduate engineering students.
• Develop course materials and practical learning resources.
• Teach courses related to Civil Engineering and Structural Engineering.
• Conduct seminars, tutorials, and practical demonstrations.
• Set tests, examinations, and coursework assessments.
• Administer and supervise examinations.
• Mark examinations, assignments, and coursework.
• Compile and submit student grades and academic results.
• Provide academic guidance and mentorship to students.

• Conduct high-quality research in Civil Engineering and Structural Engineering.
• Publish research findings in recognised academic journals.
• Present research papers at conferences, workshops, and engineering forums.
• Develop research proposals and participate in funded research projects.
• Contribute to innovation in structural design and construction technologies.
• Collaborate with other researchers and engineering professionals.

• Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate engineering research projects.
• Guide students in engineering research methodologies.
• Mentor students undertaking structural engineering projects.
• Support students in developing practical engineering solutions.
• Supervise at least three graduate students to completion since promotion to Lecturer.

• Perform departmental administrative duties assigned by the Head of Department.
• Participate in curriculum review and development.
• Support accreditation and quality assurance activities.
• Attend departmental and faculty meetings.
• Contribute to academic planning and improvement initiatives.

• Participate in engineering outreach programmes.
• Contribute technical expertise to community development projects.
• Support professional engineering initiatives.
• Engage with industry stakeholders and engineering bodies.

Required Qualifications

• An earned PhD in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline from a recognised institution of higher learning.
• Evidence of strong academic ability in:
  • Research
  • Teaching
  • Scholarly publication
  • Engineering innovation

Experience Requirements

• Minimum of five (5) years teaching experience at a recognised institution of higher learning.
• At least three (3) years teaching experience at Lecturer level.
• Experience teaching Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering courses.
• Experience supervising graduate students.
• A strong record of public service and professional contribution.

Publication Requirements

• At least three (3) publications in their area of specialisation since promotion to Lecturer.
• Evidence of continuous research and scholarly contribution.
• Participation in academic conferences and professional forums.
