About the CONNECT4Health Project

The CONNECT4Health Project is designed to strengthen integrated care for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and mental health conditions by improving connections between communities, health facilities, and follow-up care pathways.
The project works with communities, healthcare providers, district stakeholders, and research partners in Buikwe and Mayuge districts to improve healthcare delivery, research systems, and patient support.

Job Summary

Makerere University School of Public Health is seeking a qualified Study Coordinator to support the successful implementation of the CONNECT4Health Project.
The Study Coordinator will oversee daily project activities, coordinate research operations, support collaboration between stakeholders, manage project documentation, monitor implementation progress, and ensure compliance with research protocols, ethical standards, and safeguarding requirements.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Principal Investigator, project team members, district authorities, healthcare facilities, and research partners to ensure effective project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Project Coordination and Implementation
  • Coordinate the day-to-day implementation of the CONNECT4Health Project.
  • Facilitate collaboration among project staff, partners, participating districts, and stakeholders.
  • Support effective communication between project teams and external collaborators.
  • Ensure project activities are implemented according to approved plans and timelines.
Research Management and Protocol Support
  • Support the Principal Investigator in coordinating research protocols and project activities.
  • Coordinate development of research protocols, tools, and study documents.
  • Support translation and adaptation of research tools where required.
  • Manage ethics applications, approvals, and annual renewals.
  • Ensure compliance with research guidelines and regulatory requirements.
Project Planning, Monitoring and Reporting
  • Develop, monitor, and update project workplans.
  • Track project implementation progress and milestones.
  • Prepare project reports and documentation.
  • Support monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities.
  • Identify implementation challenges and support solutions.
Field Operations and Data Collection
  • Coordinate field activities and research operations.
  • Support data collection activities across project sites.
  • Ensure adherence to research protocols and quality standards.
  • Monitor compliance with safeguarding and accountability requirements.
  • Maintain effective relationships with district and health facility teams.
Documentation and Knowledge Sharing
  • Maintain accurate project records and documentation.
  • Contribute to seminars, workshops, blogs, policy briefs, and scientific publications.
  • Support preparation of research reports and communication materials.
  • Participate in dissemination of project findings.
Project Meetings and Resource Mobilisation
  • Participate in project management meetings.
  • Contribute to project planning and strategic discussions.
  • Support grant writing activities and resource mobilisation initiatives.
  • Assist in strengthening partnerships and collaborations.
Teaching and Academic Support
  • Contribute to teaching and learning programmes within the Department of Health Policy, Planning and Management.
  • Support academic and research activities related to public health.

Required Qualifications

  • Master of Public Health (MPH) degree or equivalent qualification.
  • At least five years’ experience working in a health-related setting.
  • Experience working within district local government health systems is highly desirable.
  • Evidence of first authorship of a peer-reviewed journal article.
  • Experience in research environments or study coordination is an added advantage.
  • Good Clinical Practice (GCP) or Human Subjects Research certification is an added advantage.
  • Commitment to pursuing and completing a PhD within four years of recruitment.
