Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The role is responsible for coordinating community-based disease prevention and health promotion interventions. The position supports disease surveillance activities and provides technical guidance to health facility teams in areas including EPI, HIV/AIDS, WASH, nutrition, and family planning.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and guide implementation of public health strategies within the settlement through identification of indicators for monitoring activities, outputs, and achievements.
- Coordinate community health interventions together with Village Health Teams, Health Assistants, and Nutrition staff in areas such as EPI, HIV/AIDS, WASH, child welfare, nutrition, and family planning.
- Support capacity strengthening for supervised staff through mentorship, development of training materials, and continuous technical guidance.
- Serve as the focal person for handling community feedback and complaints through community forums, suggestion boxes, and FRRM channels in line with MTI policies.
- Conduct disease surveillance activities to identify potential outbreaks and work closely with management in planning and implementing epidemic response measures.
- Carry out community health assessments and support programme planning based on identified findings and priorities.
- Promote stronger linkages between health facilities and communities through regular engagement platforms including community dialogues, HUMCs, and feedback meetings.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders and partners to strengthen awareness, understanding, and utilization of available health services within the target communities.
- Analyze health data using HIS/HMIS systems and prepare reports in accordance with reporting schedules.
- Perform any other related duties assigned by management.
SECURITY FOCAL PERSON RESPONSIBILITIES
- Remain updated on security matters through close collaboration with the Program Manager, participation in security meetings, and engagement in information-sharing forums.
- Share relevant security updates with the appropriate teams and immediately report any security concerns or risks affecting MTI staff to the Program Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATION
- Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health or a related discipline is preferred.
- A Diploma in Clinical Medicine with additional Public Health training may also be considered.
- Registration with the Allied Health Professionals Council is mandatory.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience implementing public health programmes is required.
- Prior experience working with INGOs and emergency response operations is considered an added advantage.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
- Strong understanding of public health programming including EPI, HIV/AIDS, WASH, nutrition, and family planning interventions.
- Knowledge of community engagement approaches, complaints handling mechanisms, and management of sensitive feedback.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Strong capacity building and team mobilization skills.
- Ability to conduct disease surveillance and implement outbreak control measures effectively.
- Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to strengthen community support systems and encourage ownership of healthcare initiatives through behaviour change strategies.
- Good analytical and report writing skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook applications.
