Locum Medical Officer – Makerere University Joint AIDS Program (MJAP)

• Obtain and accurately document detailed patient medical histories and conduct appropriate physical examinations.
• Perform initial and ongoing clinical assessments of HIV-infected patients.
• Diagnose and manage common medical conditions and provide emergency care to critically ill patients.
• Prescribe appropriate medications in accordance with approved clinical guidelines.
• Assess patient eligibility for ART and initiate appropriate antiretroviral treatment in line with MOH guidelines and MJAP protocols.
• Monitor patients for drug toxicities, adherence, treatment response, and other ART-related concerns.
• Request, review, and interpret laboratory investigations and radiological examinations required for diagnosis and patient monitoring.
• Assess and manage patients presenting with opportunistic infections and non-infectious comorbidities.
• Provide appropriate clinical referrals and consultations when specialized care is required.
• Attend to patients receiving routine clinic care, urgent care, and inpatient follow-up.
• Provide appropriate care and follow-up for TB/HIV patients.
• Follow up patients admitted at other health facilities where necessary.
• Maintain accurate and complete patient records in physical files, OpenMRS, RX Solutions, and other approved systems.
• Provide continuous on-the-job mentorship and technical support to nurses, counsellors, and nursing assistants.
• Participate in Continuing Medical Education (CME) sessions and present challenging clinical cases.
• Participate in journal clubs and review relevant medical literature.
• Promote adherence to infection prevention, patient safety, confidentiality, and professional standards.
• Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to improve patient outcomes.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from a recognized institution.
• Valid medical practicing license.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a busy clinical setting.
• Previous experience working in an HIV clinical care setting is an added advantage.
• Knowledge of HIV/AIDS treatment, ART management, opportunistic infections, and TB/HIV care is highly desirable.
• Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and decision-making skills.
