Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) is a government agency responsible for business registration, intellectual property administration, and other statutory registration services in Uganda.
URSB plays a key role in promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, and protection of intellectual property rights through registration, awareness creation, stakeholder engagement, and public education initiatives.
The organization is seeking a creative and professional Project Support Officer – Communication to support communication activities related to intellectual property (IP) awareness and implementation of the National Intellectual Property Policy 2019.

Position Overview

The Project Support Officer – Communication will support the development and implementation of communication strategies aimed at promoting awareness about intellectual property rights and strengthening public understanding of IP concepts.
The role involves working with internal teams, government stakeholders, media partners, and the public to develop communication materials, manage digital platforms, support events, and enhance URSB’s visibility.

Job Purpose

To promote awareness and understanding of intellectual property protection by supporting communication strategies, stakeholder engagement, public relations activities, digital communication, and implementation of the National Intellectual Property Policy 2019.

Key Responsibilities

1. Communication Strategy Development and Support
  • Assist in developing and implementing communication strategies related to intellectual property awareness.
  • Support communication programs aimed at educating the public about IP protection.
  • Work with interdisciplinary teams to implement effective communication practices.
  • Collect stakeholder feedback to evaluate communication effectiveness.
  • Recommend improvements to communication approaches.

2. Communication Training and Internal Engagement

  • Assist in developing communication-related training programs for staff.
  • Support initiatives aimed at improving internal communication skills.
  • Facilitate effective information sharing among departments.
  • Prepare internal communication materials including:
    • Newsletters
    • Updates
    • Internal notices
    • Awareness materials

3. Public Relations and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Respond to inquiries from:
    • Public members
    • Media representatives
    • IP stakeholders
  • Provide accurate and clear information regarding intellectual property matters.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Support public relations activities to strengthen URSB’s reputation.
  • Promote awareness of intellectual property rights.

4. Media Relations and Monitoring

  • Develop and maintain relationships with media partners.
  • Monitor media coverage related to intellectual property.
  • Prepare reports on media visibility and public engagement.
  • Support management with media information and communication updates.
  • Assist in managing public information activities.

5. Digital Communication and Content Development

  • Manage and update IP office social media platforms.
  • Create engaging content for:
    • Websites
    • Social media platforms
    • Newsletters
    • Press releases
    • Digital communication channels
  • Develop informative materials to promote intellectual property awareness.
  • Edit and proofread public relations content.
  • Support digital communication campaigns.

6. Graphic Design and Multimedia Content

  • Create visually appealing communication materials for print and digital platforms.
  • Support production of multimedia content including:
    • Videos
    • Animations
    • Digital awareness materials
  • Ensure communication materials maintain consistent branding standards.
  • Support corporate identity and brand visibility.

7. Events, Workshops and Awareness Campaigns

  • Support planning and implementation of:
    • Workshops
    • Seminars
    • Awareness campaigns
    • Public events
  • Coordinate event logistics.
  • Prepare promotional and communication materials.
  • Support effective communication during events.
  • Assist in stakeholder coordination.

8. Crisis Communication Support

  • Assist in developing communication approaches during:
    • Public concerns
    • Crisis situations
    • Reputation management issues
  • Support timely and accurate communication responses.
  • Assist in maintaining public confidence in URSB services.

9. Other Assigned Duties

  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Registrations Officer.
  • Support overall communication and public awareness initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

Academic Qualifications
Applicants must have:
A Bachelor’s Degree with Honours in any of the following fields:
  • Mass Communication
  • Journalism
  • Communication Studies
  • Marketing
  • Public Relations
  • Related communication fields
from a recognized university or institution.

Work Experience

  • No specific previous work experience is required.
  • Experience in communication, media, public relations, digital marketing, or content creation is an added advantage.
