Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) is a government agency responsible for registration services, intellectual property administration, business support, and promotion of innovation and entrepreneurship in Uganda.
Through its intellectual property and business support initiatives, URSB supports innovators, entrepreneurs, businesses, and organizations in protecting, valuing, and commercializing intellectual assets.
URSB is seeking a competent and analytical Project Support Officer – Business Development to support IP valuation, commercialization activities, business development initiatives, and Innovation and Business Support Hub operations.

Position Overview

The Project Support Officer – Business Development will support intellectual property valuation activities, identify commercialization opportunities, conduct business research, prepare business development documents, support stakeholder engagement, and maintain accurate project records.
The successful candidate will work closely with supervisors, innovators, businesses, and stakeholders to support the growth and commercialization of intellectual property assets.

Job Purpose

To support the delivery of intellectual property valuation services, business development activities, commercialization initiatives, and operations of the Innovation and Business Support Hub.

Key Responsibilities

1. Intellectual Property (IP) Valuation Support
  • Conduct IP valuation exercises under the guidance of supervisors.
  • Collect, organize, and verify required valuation information including:
    • Financial data
    • Market information
    • Technical information
    • Industry data
  • Support preparation of IP valuation reports.
  • Prepare valuation data tables and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain accurate records of valuation assignments.
  • Update client files and divisional databases.

2. IP Commercialization and Business Development

  • Support identification of intellectual property commercialization opportunities.
  • Assist in documenting potential business opportunities.
  • Prepare commercialization documents including:
    • Commercialization briefs
    • Business cases
    • Licensing proposals
  • Support business matching activities between innovators and potential partners.
  • Maintain records of:
    • Commercialization projects
    • Licensing arrangements
    • Partnership contacts

3. Research and Market Analysis

  • Conduct desktop research on:
    • IP valuation trends
    • Market data
    • Industry benchmarks
    • Sector analysis
  • Analyze research findings and compile useful information.
  • Support development of commercialization strategies.
  • Provide research insights for valuation reports and business decisions.

4. Business Support Hub Operations

  • Provide administrative and logistical support for:
    • Business matching events
    • Workshops
    • Client meetings
    • Innovation support activities
  • Coordinate activities to support smooth project implementation.
  • Support engagement with innovators, entrepreneurs, and business stakeholders.

5. Data Management and Reporting

  • Maintain divisional databases and knowledge management systems.
  • Organize filing systems and project documentation.
  • Gather and process data for:
    • Management reports
    • Performance statistics
    • Monitoring reports
  • Maintain accurate business development records.
  • Support preparation of operational reports.

6. Client Engagement and Awareness Activities

  • Organize client sensitization sessions.
  • Support outreach activities and awareness events.
  • Prepare communication materials including:
    • Presentations
    • Information materials
    • Handouts
  • Engage clients professionally and provide business support information.
  • Promote awareness of IP commercialization opportunities.

7. Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform any other duties assigned by management.
  • Support continuous improvement of business development processes.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

Academic Qualifications
Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following fields:

  • Related fields
from a recognized institution.

Professional Experience
