Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

• Provide academic leadership, guidance, and mentorship within the Department of Law.
• Support the development of academic programmes and research initiatives.
• Mentor junior academic staff and support professional growth.
• Participate in departmental and university decision-making processes.

• Prepare and deliver high-quality lectures to undergraduate and postgraduate law students.
• Conduct seminars, tutorials, workshops, and academic discussions.
• Advise students on academic progress and career development.
• Develop innovative teaching approaches that improve student learning outcomes.
• Set, assess, and mark examinations, coursework, and assignments.
• Provide constructive feedback to students.

• Conduct advanced legal research in areas of specialisation.
• Publish scholarly articles in recognised peer-reviewed legal journals.
• Develop research proposals and seek funding opportunities.
• Present research findings at academic conferences and professional forums.
• Promote knowledge creation and legal scholarship.
• Contribute to national and international legal debates.

• Supervise undergraduate research projects.
• Guide Master's students in research activities.
• Mentor students undertaking legal research.
• Support students during field placements and practical legal training where required.

• Participate in curriculum design, review, and improvement.
• Ensure legal programmes meet national and international academic standards.
• Contribute to accreditation and quality assurance processes.

• Participate in legal outreach programmes.
• Provide expert knowledge to support community development.
• Contribute to public legal education initiatives.
• Promote partnerships between the University and legal institutions.

• Prepare research proposals and accreditation documents.
• Support quality assurance activities.
• Deliver an inaugural lecture in the relevant area of legal specialisation.
• Participate in university committees and professional activities.

Required Qualifications

• An earned PhD in Law or a relevant legal discipline from a recognised institution of higher learning.
• Evidence of outstanding professional achievement or exceptional academic capability in accordance with university academic promotion policies.

Experience Requirements

• At least seven (7) years of relevant teaching, research, publication, and public service experience.
• At least three (3) years served at the rank of Associate Professor.
• Demonstrated ability to provide academic leadership.
• A strong record of legal research and scholarly contribution.
• Experience supervising postgraduate students.

Publication Requirements

• At least seven (7) publications in their area of specialisation in recognised peer-reviewed journals since promotion to Associate Professor.
• The applicant must be the first author for at least 50% of the seven publications.
• Evidence of continuous contribution to legal scholarship and research.
