Kijani Forestry is seeking a qualified Plantation Growth Supervisor to provide operational leadership and technical supervision for Plantation Growth Coordinators (PGCs) across designated field areas. The successful candidate will oversee plantation quality, farmer engagement, operational planning, and data quality while ensuring the successful implementation of silvicultural activities and seasonal work plans.

Job Summary

The Plantation Growth Supervisor will supervise Plantation Growth Coordinators, ensuring the effective implementation of plantation management activities, data quality assurance, farmer support, and compliance with forestry standards.
Working closely with the Plantation Growth Officer (PGO), the successful candidate will coordinate field operations, monitor plantation performance, mentor field teams, and support farmers to improve plantation health, survival rates, and sustainable forestry practices.
The ideal candidate should possess strong technical knowledge of silviculture, leadership abilities, excellent reporting skills, and experience supervising field operations within rural communities.

Key Responsibilities

Supervision and Performance Management
  • Supervise the daily activities of Plantation Growth Coordinators through field visits and regular performance reviews.
  • Provide coaching on silviculture practices, farmer engagement, and reporting standards.
  • Conduct structured staff performance assessments and support continuous improvement.
  • Ensure coordinators achieve key performance indicators related to plantation quality, garden coverage, survival monitoring, and ethical conduct.
Plantation Quality Management
  • Verify completion of silvicultural activities including weeding, pruning, thinning, gap filling, and fireline maintenance.
  • Monitor plantations for pests, diseases, grazing damage, and climate-related risks.
  • Coordinate corrective actions for plantations requiring intervention.
  • Prioritise high-risk plantation areas and support rapid response activities.
Farmer Engagement and Technical Support
  • Support Plantation Growth Coordinators in delivering technical guidance to farmers.
  • Resolve complex farmer technical issues.
  • Promote respectful and effective farmer engagement.
  • Identify and develop demonstration farmers.
  • Mobilise communities for technical training and plantation maintenance campaigns.
Data Quality Assurance and Reporting
  • Verify the completeness and accuracy of field reports submitted by Plantation Growth Coordinators.
  • Conduct random field inspections to validate reported information.
  • Identify data inconsistencies, fraud risks, and reporting errors.
  • Prepare weekly performance reports and operational summaries.
Operational Planning and Coordination
  • Develop weekly and monthly field work plans.
  • Coordinate plantation management activities according to seasonal priorities.
  • Ensure adequate field coverage across assigned operational areas.
  • Resolve operational challenges relating to transport, staffing, scheduling, and logistics.
  • Coordinate joint activities with Farmer Relations teams during critical plantation periods.
Compliance, Ethics and Safety
  • Enforce safety procedures and environmental standards.
  • Promote ethical field operations and accountability.
  • Investigate operational irregularities and report findings.
  • Ensure responsible utilisation of organisational resources.
Support During Planting Seasons
  • Provide technical supervision during planting and plantation establishment.
  • Support mobilisation of farmers during planting campaigns.
  • Verify seedling distribution and spacing standards.
  • Train field teams on plantation establishment best practices.
  • Document field challenges and recommend improvements.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Support emerging operational priorities.
  • Represent the Plantation Growth Officer during cluster meetings where required.
  • Participate in inter-district coordination activities.
  • Contribute to development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and training materials.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree or Diploma
