Kijani Forestry is seeking a motivated and technically competent Plantation Growth Coordinator to support plantation monitoring, farmer training, tree survival assessments, and implementation of silvicultural practices. The successful candidate will work closely with farmers, local leaders, and field teams to ensure healthy plantation growth, accurate data collection, and compliance with environmental and operational standards.
Job Summary
The Plantation Growth Coordinator will oversee day-to-day plantation monitoring and provide technical support to farmers on tree establishment, maintenance, and plantation management. The role involves conducting routine field visits, monitoring tree survival, collecting plantation data, training farmers on best forestry practices, and ensuring compliance with Kijani Forestry's operational procedures.
The successful candidate will also support seasonal planting activities, maintain accurate plantation records, participate in environmental protection initiatives, and contribute to continuous improvement of plantation performance across assigned areas.
The ideal candidate should possess strong knowledge of forestry or agriculture, excellent communication skills, practical field experience, and the ability to work effectively with farming communities.

Key Responsibilities

Plantation Management and Monitoring
  • Conduct routine field visits to assess plantation condition and maintenance activities.
  • Monitor implementation of silvicultural practices including weeding, pruning, thinning, and fireline maintenance.
  • Identify plantation performance gaps and recommend corrective actions.
  • Monitor high-risk plantations affected by fire, grazing, pests, or drought stress.
Tree Survival Assessment
  • Conduct scheduled tree survival assessments following established timelines.
  • Record stocking levels, mortality rates, and plantation health indicators.
  • Provide technical feedback to farmers on improving plantation survival.
  • Update farmer and plantation records where required.
Farmer Training and Technical Support
  • Train farmers on proper tree planting, maintenance, pruning, thinning, spacing, and plantation protection techniques.
  • Conduct practical demonstrations on silvicultural practices.
  • Reinforce farmer responsibilities under Kijani Forestry partnership agreements.
  • Mobilise farmers for seasonal maintenance campaigns and technical meetings.
Community Engagement and Coordination
  • Collaborate with local leaders to promote plantation protection and community participation.
  • Support mobilisation of farmer groups during training and planting activities.
  • Identify model plantations and demonstration farmers.
  • Coordinate joint community activities with Farmer Relations teams.
Reporting and Documentation
  • Prepare weekly reports covering plantation maintenance, survival assessments, and identified risks.
  • Maintain accurate plantation records and field documentation.
  • Document causes of tree mortality and corrective measures implemented.
  • Support preparation of evidence required for audits and carbon verification.
Environmental Protection and Compliance
  • Promote fire prevention and environmental conservation practices.
  • Ensure safe use of equipment, tools, and agricultural inputs.
  • Report environmental, safety, or operational incidents promptly.
  • Promote sustainable land management practices among farmers.
Support During Planting Seasons
  • Assist nursery and planting teams during peak planting periods.
  • Monitor seedling transportation and planting quality.
  • Verify plantation establishment data and update records.
  • Report field establishment challenges to supervisors.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Participate in organisational training and pilot programmes.
  • Support other Plantation Growth Coordinators during high workload periods.
  • Participate in community consultations and emergency response activities.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by management.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Must Have
Diploma in Forestry, Agriculture, Natural Sciences, or Related Field
Applicants should possess a recognised diploma in Forestry, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Natural Sciences, or another related discipline.
Experience in Plantation Management
Practical experience in plantation management, forestry, silviculture, agricultural extension, or related field operations is preferred.
Strong Communication Skills
Ability to effectively train farmers, facilitate community engagement, and communicate technical forestry information.
Organisational Skills
Ability to manage multiple field activities, maintain accurate records, and submit timely reports.
Field Work Readiness
Willingness to work extensively in rural communities and travel within assigned operational areas.
Additional Qualifications (Added Advantage)
  • Experience working with rural farming communities.
  • Knowledge of sustainable forestry practices.
  • Experience in environmental conservation projects.
  • Familiarity with digital field data collection tools.
  • Motorcycle riding skills.
  • Experience supporting carbon forestry programmes.
