Shalom Medical Center is seeking a qualified and experienced Pediatrician to join its team under a Business Partner / Consultant arrangement. The successful candidate will provide specialised medical care to infants, children, and adolescents while consulting and managing patients at the medical centre in Kawempe-Kazo, Kampala.

Job Summary

The Pediatrician will provide comprehensive outpatient medical care for infants, children, and adolescents by diagnosing, treating, and managing both acute and chronic childhood illnesses.
The role involves conducting medical consultations, monitoring child growth and development, prescribing treatment plans, providing preventive healthcare services, educating parents and caregivers, and maintaining high standards of clinical practice.
Working independently while utilising Shalom Medical Center as a consultation facility, the successful candidate will collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure quality, ethical, and patient-centred healthcare delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Consultation and Patient Care
  • Conduct comprehensive outpatient consultations for infants, children, and adolescents.
  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic pediatric illnesses.
  • Develop appropriate treatment and follow-up care plans.
  • Prescribe medications based on established clinical guidelines.
Child Growth and Development Monitoring
  • Monitor children's physical growth and developmental milestones.
  • Identify developmental delays and recommend appropriate interventions.
  • Provide routine child health assessments.
  • Support early diagnosis of pediatric health conditions.
Preventive Healthcare
  • Provide preventive healthcare services and child wellness consultations.
  • Advise parents and caregivers on childhood immunization schedules.
  • Promote disease prevention and healthy child development.
  • Offer nutritional guidance and health education.
Patient Referral and Collaboration
  • Refer patients for specialised investigations or advanced treatment where necessary.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary patient management where appropriate.
  • Support comprehensive healthcare planning for pediatric patients.
Medical Documentation
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential patient medical records.
  • Document consultations, diagnoses, treatments, and follow-up plans.
  • Ensure compliance with professional documentation standards.
  • Protect patient confidentiality at all times.
Professional Practice and Compliance
  • Practice according to Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council (UMDPC) regulations.
  • Maintain high standards of medical ethics and professionalism.
  • Ensure compliance with national healthcare regulations and clinical guidelines.
  • Participate in continuous professional development where appropriate.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Must Have
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB/MBBS)
Applicants must possess a recognised Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB/MBBS) degree or an equivalent medical qualification.
Postgraduate Qualification in Pediatrics
A recognised postgraduate qualification in Pediatrics is mandatory.
Valid Practicing Licence
Candidates must possess a valid practicing licence.
Registration with Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council (UMDPC)
Applicants must be registered with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council (UMDPC).
Active Clinical Practice
Candidates should be actively practicing as a Pediatrician.

Additional Qualifications (Added Advantage)

  • Experience managing neonatal and pediatric emergencies.
  • Strong background in preventive child healthcare.
  • Experience working in outpatient pediatric clinics.
  • Training in pediatric life support.
  • Experience using electronic medical records.
