IT Project Manager

Location: Kampala, Uganda

JOB PURPOSE
The IT Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering IT projects within agreed timelines, budgets, quality standards, and client requirements. The role involves working closely with internal departments, clients, technology vendors, OEMs, and third-party service providers to ensure successful project delivery and effective IT service implementation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage IT projects on a day-to-day basis from initiation through completion.
  • Coordinate communication between project teams, clients, OEMs, vendors, and third-party service providers.
  • Obtain the necessary project approvals before project commencement.
  • Develop project budgets and coordinate the approval process.
  • Ensure Statements of Work and other required project documentation are completed before implementation.
  • Develop, execute, monitor, and update project work plans based on changing requirements.
  • Establish project schedules, milestones, deadlines, and resource requirements.
  • Monitor project dependencies, risks, uncertainties, and potential delivery challenges.
  • Develop appropriate contingency plans to minimize the impact of project risks.
  • Prepare comprehensive project management plans covering scope, schedule, resources, quality, risks, communication, and delivery requirements.
  • Monitor project scope and manage changes through an established change-management process.
  • Identify and resolve project issues, including scope changes, missed deadlines, resource constraints, and changing client requirements.
  • Work with stakeholders to develop corrective actions and revised implementation plans where necessary.
  • Ensure project activities remain aligned with approved specifications, requirements, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Monitor project performance against agreed objectives and deliverables.
  • Coordinate quality assurance activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare and submit regular project status reports covering schedules, budgets, risks, issues, deliverables, and billing status.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, records, and stakeholder communications.
  • Monitor project resources and ensure their effective utilization.
  • Keep up to date with emerging technologies, IT standards, project management practices, and industry developments.
  • Provide project leadership and guidance to technical and non-technical team members.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • At least 3 years of experience managing projects within the IT or technology sector.
  • Strong understanding of IT project management principles and methodologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder-management abilities.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated team leadership and coordination skills.
  • Strong documentation and reporting capabilities.
  • Ability to use project management tools such as Microsoft Project, Trello, Jira, or comparable platforms.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Strong time-management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Understanding of project financial planning, budgeting, cost monitoring, and resource management.
  • Good understanding of IT systems, technology environments, and relevant industry standards.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, Business Management, or a related discipline.
  • Professional project management certification such as PMP or PRINCE2 is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience managing IT projects from planning and initiation through implementation and completion.
