Job Summary

Yalelo Uganda is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Health, Safety, Environment & Social (HSE) Assistant to support the implementation and coordination of health, safety, environmental, and social compliance activities across the organisation.
The successful candidate will work closely with the HSE Officer to ensure compliance with applicable legislation, promote workplace safety practices, support environmental management initiatives, and contribute to building a strong Health, Safety, Environment, and Social (HSES) culture throughout the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily Health, Safety, Environment, and Social activities in collaboration with the HSE Officer.
  • Support the implementation of workplace health and safety policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Ensure the company complies with relevant occupational health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  • Promote continuous improvement of a strong HSE culture across the organisation.
  • Conduct workplace inspections and identify potential safety risks and hazards.
  • Support investigations of workplace incidents, accidents, and near misses.
  • Assist in implementing corrective and preventive actions to improve workplace safety.
  • Support environmental management activities and ensure compliance with environmental requirements.
  • Monitor safe handling and storage procedures for potentially hazardous materials.
  • Maintain accurate HSE records, reports, and documentation.
  • Assist in preparing HSE reports and updates for management review.
  • Support employee awareness campaigns, safety trainings, and HSE communication initiatives.
  • Work with teams to promote safe working practices and improve safety performance.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Education, Qualifications & Experience

Minimum Qualifications
  • Diploma in Environmental Management or a related field.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related discipline will be an added advantage.
  • Certificate in Occupational Health, Safety and Environment (OHSE) is an added advantage.

Required Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in Health, Safety, Environment (HSE), Occupational Safety, or related roles.
  • Practical knowledge of workplace safety procedures and environmental management practices.
  • Experience working with safety regulations, compliance requirements, and reporting procedures.

Required Skills and Competencies

Successful candidates should demonstrate:
  • Good knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation and procedures.
  • Understanding of workplace hazards and safe handling practices for hazardous materials.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organisational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach.
  • Ability to manage challenging situations professionally.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety standards.
