Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with district education offices, schools, communities, and education stakeholders to coordinate project activities.
• Support training and mentorship of teachers on Learning through Play (LtP) approaches.
• Build strong relationships with project beneficiaries and local stakeholders.
• Represent the PlayMatters Project at community and school levels.
• Coordinate with education partners, UN agencies, NGOs, and government structures.

2. Communication, Learning and Knowledge Sharing

• Support documentation of project experiences, lessons learned, and best practices.
• Support implementation of PlayMatters activities in Early Childhood Development Centres and Primary Schools.
• Participate in education sector meetings and share field experiences.
• Conduct regular school visits to observe project implementation and provide technical support to teachers.
• Support awareness creation on Learning through Play among teachers, parents, caregivers, and community leaders.
• Collect feedback from learners, teachers, and communities to improve project implementation.

3. Ensuring Effective Project Implementation

• Support timely delivery of project activities according to approved plans.
• Monitor achievement of project targets and expected outcomes.
• Support School Management Committees to sustain Learning through Play initiatives.
• Participate in review meetings and contribute implementation recommendations.
• Prepare activity reports including:
  • Number of beneficiaries reached
  • Success stories
  • Photos
  • Lessons learned
  • Challenges and recommendations
• Develop implementation plans and activity budgets.
• Prepare procurement, distribution, and spending plans.
• Ensure timely submission of financial and administrative requests.

4. Risk Management, Compliance and Accountability

• Support identification and management of project risks related to:
  • Procurement
  • Finance
  • Safeguarding
  • Staff safety and security
• Provide practical demonstrations and coaching on Learning through Play methods.
• Support Teacher Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities.
• Maintain CPD trackers, teacher support records, and mentoring documentation.
• Gather real-time feedback from schools and communities.
• Support integration of Learning through Play approaches into school improvement plans.
• Ensure compliance with LABE and partner policies including:
  • Child safeguarding policies
  • Gender equality policies
  • Inclusion policies
  • Code of Conduct
  • Anti-harassment policies

5. Safeguarding, Gender Equality and Inclusion

• Promote safe programming for children and vulnerable groups.
• Ensure compliance with child protection and safeguarding standards.
• Report any safeguarding concerns according to organisational procedures.
• Ensure project staff, volunteers, teachers, and stakeholders understand safeguarding responsibilities.
• Promote inclusive education approaches that support vulnerable children.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree from a recognised university in:
  • Education
  • Teacher Professional Development
  • Curriculum Studies
  • Early Childhood Care and Education
  • Social Sciences
  • Related fields.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in:
  • Teacher professional development
  • Education programming
  • Community engagement
  • School-based interventions
• Experience working with primary schools and teachers is highly desirable.
• Understanding of Uganda’s education system including:
  • Schools
  • Teachers
  • District Education Offices
  • Teacher Training Institutions (TTIs)
  • Ministry of Education and Sports structures
• Experience working in refugee settlements or humanitarian settings is an added advantage.
• Ability to ride a motorcycle with a valid riding permit.
• Strong knowledge of Learning Through Play approaches.
• Good understanding of project management principles.
