The organization is seeking a passionate, committed, and experienced professional to serve as an Evangelism and Discipleship Officer based in Jinja, Uganda.

Job Summary

The Evangelism and Discipleship Officer will provide leadership and coordination in implementing Water Mission’s Evangelism and Discipleship (E&D) programmes, Living Water initiatives, and community development activities.
The role focuses on sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, strengthening spiritual growth among staff, churches, and communities, supporting faith-based partnerships, and ensuring effective implementation of ministry activities alongside safe water and hygiene programmes.
The successful candidate will develop training materials, organize discipleship programmes, coordinate church and community engagement activities, prepare reports, support ministry partners, and travel regularly to project locations to monitor programme impact.

Key Responsibilities

1. Evangelism and Discipleship Programme Implementation
  • Implement Water Mission’s Living Water programme strategy according to established organizational standards.
  • Share the Gospel of Jesus Christ through community outreach programmes, church partnerships, educational sessions, and ministry activities.
  • Organize evangelism events including:
    • Community fellowships
    • Prayer meetings
    • Gospel outreach programmes
    • Film screenings
    • Church and community celebrations
  • Distribute Living Water resources including educational materials, books, digital resources, and ministry tools.
  • Support spiritual transformation initiatives within communities served by Water Mission.
  • Mobilize local churches to participate in community development and integral mission activities.

2. Training and Curriculum Development

  • Review, improve, and develop Evangelism and Discipleship training materials.
  • Organize and facilitate training sessions for:
    • Water Mission staff
    • Church leaders
    • Pastors
    • Community leaders
    • WASH stakeholders
  • Develop Bible study materials, discipleship resources, and ministry learning content.
  • Coordinate pastors’ workshops, seminars, and spiritual development programmes.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of discipleship activities.

3. Staff Spiritual Formation and Support

  • Promote a Christian culture aligned with Water Mission’s values and mission.
  • Lead staff devotions, prayer sessions, retreats, and spiritual growth activities.
  • Provide spiritual encouragement, mentorship, and discipleship support to employees.
  • Support the development of spiritual growth strategies and resources.
  • Coordinate external pastors, speakers, and ministry partners for spiritual activities.
  • Assist HR processes by supporting spiritual assessments and reference evaluations where required.

4. Church, Community and Partner Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with churches, faith-based organizations, NGOs, and community leaders.
  • Mobilize church partners to support safe water projects and community transformation.
  • Strengthen partnerships with religious organizations and development stakeholders.
  • Represent Water Mission at conferences, workshops, and ministry events.
  • Document community impact stories, testimonies, and programme achievements.

5. Project Planning, Budgeting and Reporting

  • Develop activity plans and budgets for Evangelism, Discipleship, and Living Water programmes.
  • Prepare financial requests and accountability reports according to organizational procedures.
  • Work with procurement teams to obtain materials and resources needed for ministry activities.
  • Prepare:
    • Weekly activity plans
    • Monthly reports
    • Quarterly programme reports
    • Donor reports
  • Capture programme outcomes through photographs, testimonials, and success stories.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of field activities.

6. Community Development and Programme Support

  • Support community development activities linked to safe water projects.
  • Participate in establishing and strengthening Safe Water Committees.
  • Conduct field visits to monitor project progress and community engagement.
  • Support capacity building for community members and local leaders.
  • Identify and address challenges affecting project sustainability.
  • Ensure compliance with Water Mission policies, procedures, and safety standards.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Educational Requirements
Applicants should have:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in:
    • Theology
    • Divinity
    • Christian Education
    • Religious Studies
    • Biblical Studies
    • Ministry-related fields
A Master’s Degree in a related field will be an added advantage.
Candidates with relevant ministry experience and strong Christian leadership backgrounds may also be considered.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of 2–4 years of experience in:
    • Evangelism programmes
    • Discipleship ministry
    • Church leadership
    • Pastoral work
    • Faith-based NGO programmes
    • Community development projects
  • Experience working with churches, communities, and cross-cultural teams is highly desirable.
  • Experience in NGO or humanitarian environments is an added advantage.
